NOTE DE DÉGUSTATION
Couleur : jaune doré à reflets vieil or.
Incredibly, December 2021, already the third new bottle presentation of Savanna. Fortunately, the content is getting better and better.7+.
March 2019, after tasting the new version on site, there's a new 7 pt.
Bright gold in the glass
In the nose, in spite of half an hour in the glass, a very pungent alcoholic note.
So I waited another half an hour.
So, now I have quite different fragrances in the nose, flowers, candied fruits, quite delicate smoky wood notes.
In the palate ripe fruit, light leathers and wood notes worn by a discreet alcohol sharpness.
Very light in aroma, perhaps a slightly too light body.
In the finish more robust than in the palate, really tasty, fruits, some vanilla comes to it, very late some wood, spices and smoke, very long lasting.
A Rhum definitely needs a lot of time to "breathe".
Another first. Smells like apple cider...tastes like apple cider... and finishes with a hint of black pepper. Would drink again and try their other offerings. Makes me want to go to reunion island.
Smells a bit of nail polish removers. Citrusy on the palette. Faint caramel and hazelnut. No heat more of a warm finish on the back of the tongue.
Savanna is an interesting distillery from La Reunion in that they make rums both from molasses and from cane juice. This is one of their rum traditionnels meaning molasses based and they clearly know what they are doing in this art. The nose is quite subtle apart from a hint of vanilla and a complete absence of alcohol smell. In the mouth it is incredibly smooth to sip and the vanilla carries through to greater expression. Slight and subtle tropical fruits can be gleaned but the most impressive thing is just how well all the flavors turn in on themselves to join an incredibly integrated whole. Practically no alcohol burn whatsoever and with an aftertaste length that is about par for the course. But the takeaway here is that this is a highly agreeable sipper with very well integrated flavors. Well done and particularly recommended to those seeking a gentlemanly rum.
Had just a sample of this column distilled traditional rum from Reunion.
In nose it’s a little bit alcoholic but also fruity with tropical fruits.
In mouth, at palate and during the medium long finish it’s still fruity but also spicy and I recognize hints of anise and during the finish there also shows up hints of bitterness.
Overall an interesting rum that makes me want to test more from the brand, both traditional and Agricole.

This molasse based rum was matured in ex-cognac barrels and aged in Reunion.
Nosing reveals mild and fine notes of dried bananas and sugar cane syrup with some peppermint added. There are also notes of bourbon vanilla and tobacco leaves.
Palate is complex, creamy and lively with spices of cinnamon, black nutmeg and clove as well as vanilla and fruity with pineapple aromas. Almost salty liquorice, chocolates and milk chocolate develop. Finish is long and warming with medicinal notes of balsam, camphor and clove which are accompanied by sweet vanilla and fruity-floral notes.
