I tried the Centenario 18 yr after sipping a couple glasses of the Centenario 12 yr. The contrast was surprising. The 18 yr had the lovely signature flavor of Costa Rican rum, but lacked the depth I expected. I found myself reaching back for more of the Centenario 12.

I really like the Centenarios. The 18 is something else compared to the older brothers, but i like it.

Vůně překvapivě nevýrazná, chuť na začátku trpká, pak přechází do sladka. Na první ochutnání poměr cena/víkon poměrně zklamání. Chuť se výrazně zlepšila v kombinaci s jídlem.

This is the least sweetened Centenario rum.

The smell is rich and dark. It need some time in the glas to develop the aromas.
The nose starts with burned sugar, dry fruit and mandarine. It reminds me of Esclavo XO. I get also caramel, oak and wet barrel with earth. Good nose if you love solera rums.

The taste starts also with burned sugar, dry fruits, peach, mandarine and some white oak, vanilla and tannins. The sweetness is not dominant but I think >10g/L is there. The middle is spicy with wood, mandarine peels, dry fruits like plum and burned sugar again. Reminds me also of Pampero Anniversario.
The finish is also spicy with burned sugar, mandarine peels and peach ice tea with dry fruits.

If you love the other Centenarios this one is difficult to understand. But this is the most natural one.
It's not mild like the others and also not that sweet.
Not a bad rum overall, the taste is typical for a solera rum. I think you can get the most authentic Centenario here. Therefore 76 points.

Watch out it's quite spicy and strong. I like especially the orange in the taste.
Centenario 25th ist smooth, but too sweet for me. I think this one is better if you are not just a sweet rum lover. If you want an easy sipper go for 25th.

...was worth a try, but dissapointing in direct comparison to the just two year older Centenario 20, which by the way I really do like...a lot.

kann jedoch mit seinen grossen Brüdern nicht mithalten.
