Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

If you're into dry Rum this might just be the ticket. Personally, I don't like it that much but I can't give it anything below 7 because it is fullbodied & complex. But it is so dry that I find the finish almost Dry Martini-esque.

I prefer Rums like El Dorado 15 which have lots of added sugar (but are still well balanced and don't taste like a rum liqueur). For dry-rum purists who insist that added sugar will 'mask' a Rum's character the Santa Teresa 1796 is perfect.

It has a lot to offer but not quite my thing.

I think that the young rums in the blend are poor enough that the older ones can't make up the slack. Sounds great on paper, but is only middle of the road in the glass.

I like this one very much. I don't drink it every chance I get, but it rates up there with others at the $40 range. I keep it under my bar, since my bar top is covered with my go-to rums in the $20 and under range. I have luckily found many good rums in the range to keep me happy.

Eye
Copper, Some density. Tear is not as dense.

Nose
Some bit alcohol, Honey, Vanilla, some sugar, maple syrup, a little cocoa, some spicy.

Mouth
Not as dense, soft, end a little something sweet flavored alcoholic / bitter and dry, wooden souvenirs.

I enjoy it alone or with ice, but some Mai Tai use it as part of the combination of rum.
