Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Rum má velmi neobvyklou chuť s jasně patrným nádechem sladkého ovoce, v Evropě je bohužel zastíněn populárnější značkou Diplomatico, byť je jeho kvalita srovnatelná.

Dry, smoke, oak and full bodied. Reminds me of a Flor De Cana.

As the first reviewer "Brad" states, this starts off as a wonderful tasting Rum, but there is ... in my opinion too, an unpleasant bitter aftertaste with a strong alcohol burn, and not in a pleasant way. I really wanted to like this Rum after reading other reviews, but considering the price, I am a more than a bit disappointed. Much better Rums to be had in this price range, I won't be buying this again.

I am new to the world of aged Rums and must add that I like to sip on aged Rum rather than mixing it. I recently purchased a bottle of Santa Teresa 1796 Rum from our local Liquor outlet. Having minimal experience with Rums I was pleasantly surprised at the profile of this Rum, which was not at all what I had expected. The aroma was sweet with flavours of molasses, butterscotch as well as oak being detected. In the mouth this Rum, while sweeter than my previous tasting with St. Nicholas Abbey Rums, but not overly sweet and was very flavourful. A nice sipper Rum to add to my collection and, best of all, it is very affordable.

Update (21-11-25): I now find this rum too sweet for my liking. Will not buy again. Score decreased to a “7”.

This is a sweet rum--and a solera, too--in the vein of Ron Zacapa 23. It's very smooth and mildly complex. I think it's a great place for people to start if they don't really like sipping spirits straight. However, I can see myself already tiring of this style.

With an amber color, the nose is sweet.
On the first touch of the palate there is also a slight sweetness, not as robust as the nose. The feel on the tongue is a rich complex character.
If added with ice, the richness fades quickly as does the slight sweetness

Great for sipping. Very smooth up front and a nice finish. Perfect chilled.

The rum is smooth and the aromas are decent... but the aftertaste was kinda unpleasant for me.

I find Santa Teresa 1796 kind of middle of the road for a sipping rum. Pleasant enough flavor, but not exciting. O.K. aftertaste, but again nothing exciting. I don;t find it terribly interesting in any direction. I could drink it all night, but why would I when I like many other in and less than the price point.

This is a rum you can sip or mix and you will be happy with both
I would still prefer Diplomatic or El Dorado but this is a fine choice.
