It has definitely changed over the years. When it first hit the market it had great peat notes like a decent scotch. The vanilla was pure while now you can taste the vanilla extract. Unfortunately they have taken what made this interesting and castrated it to be more likeable to the general populous.

This was the first spiced rum I ever tried, and while I enjoyed it, the first time I tried it straight up — it's got a definite burn, but it's not medicine-y — it made me appreciate the existence of the Cuba Libre. However, I love the stories behind Sailor Jerry. It also made me feel this was more of a hipster rum, and not a serious one.

Sailor Jerry is the best spiced rum to buy for mixing. It's good enough that you could drink it over ice, but mostly it reaches a high enough bar at a low enough price point you don't have to feel bad about mixing it.

Smell and aromes are great (burned caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon) but a 80 proof it is, which is kind of a showstopper for the tasting buds. A bit dissapointed I feel :(

Sailor Jerry the great tattoo artist and now rum is a good mixing choice. I see a lot of pics here saying 80 proof, but I have always saw and bought the 92 proof version. Strong spices with heavy Vanilla taste. Mixes a sweet rum & cola. But the 92 proof packs a punch within a few drinks..

nez : notes de flans à la vanille
Bouche : crème anglaise, douceur omniprésente, manque de longueur en bouche

this is a mild flavoured rum not an attack on the taste buds but special either

Of the spiced rums I have had, and I have tried a few, I have never been a fan or most. But this one is on the sippable side. I personally turn to it for my hot buttered rums when the months get cold.

It's probably the best spiced rum of the ones I've tried, but I'm willing to bet there's better out there. I like using it in mixed drinks.

... you'll see some of his tattoo images. This rum has a very strong almond/vanilla smell. It mixes extremely well with Dr. Pepper.

This rum is great to have in the cabinet and makes a great mixer with coke. I would not drink this one over ice. But this is definitely a rum I like to have in my cabinet!
