El Dorado 2000 Skeldon

I will do a cross tasting with SVW 1996, ElD Albion 2004 and Enmore 1996.
I’m very excited. I know already the Enmore 1993 and Rum Nation Enmore 1997 (19y).
4368 bottles of the Skeldon marque and 4500 of the Albion were released.

The nose is a little bit musty first. I know that from some other Demeraras. It disappears after 30min.
I get caramel, dry fruits, honey and orange zest first. There are also the herbs, some vanilla and notes of cognac (grape seeds).
Between the sweetness is a concentrated sour note (tasty, but all four rums in the crosstasting contains that). 
There is some earth and the nose is a little bit rough compared to the SVW 1996. It gets better after 45min, the earth almost disappears.
I get also some flowery notes, but not that intensive as in the SVW 1996. 
It goes in the direction of the SVW. But it’s not that complex.
Compared to the Albion 2004 it’s almost the same nose. 
But I have the impression that it has a little bit more dry fruits and a little bit less orange zest than the Albion.

The taste is mellow and very similar to the Albion. First you get overhelmed by the bitter tannins. But after some sips you get used to it.
 I get sweet notes of caramel first, then herbs, vanilla and the Enmore wood with tannins. The tannins are too present for my liking in the initial taste.
 But we must consider, that this is an old, tropical aged rum. So no complains about that.

The initial taste is a little bit short because this rum is very viscous. It gets warm in the mouth very fast but therefore the body is richer.
In the middle I get the orange zest, the Enmore wood, honey and then some heavy aromas of wood varnish with some grains. At the end are some flowery notes that I already know from RN Enmore 1997 and of cours from the SVW 1996.

The finish starts with spice and Enmore wood. I get again the wood varnish with sweeter honey notes, vanilla and orage zest at the end.
The aftertaste is not bad with wood varnish, honey, vanilla and dry fruits. I notice the dried fruits a little more than in the other rums.

It's overall a good Demerara, but it should deliver more heavy notes. Because it's mellow the aromas
stick together, maybe it would be sharper and clearer with more abv. I think it's gotten a little too old.
It's almost similar to the Albion, but the order of the aromas is different.
It’s a different rum compared SVW 1996. I could compare the nose, but the taste is different. 
The SVW is more shaped with more heavy aromas and is also more complex.
It's not complex enough between the best Demeraras. I would rate that one with 90 points.

Dřevo zakápnuté citrusovými plody, hořká čokoláda, sušené ovoce. V chuti dřevo karamel, čokoláda, krémovost, pražené chuť, rozinky. Velmi lahodné a komplexní pití.

Jeg syntes virkelig den har en god smag. Den er hverken rigtig blød eller skarp, bare god.

I have tried many rums but this one is simply amazing!

After letting it breathe for some time it smells a little like a quality Pedro Ximénez sherry. Raisins, dark chocolate, caramel and wood without any alcoholic sharpness.
It fills your mouth with wonderful aromas of dried fruits, seasalt, burned caramel, wood and leather with some delicious floral bitterness at the end.

This is by far the most full bodied rum I have tasted till now and except some high ester rums the most intense tasting experience. The price is high, but it is worth every penny! I will definitely buy one or two bottles extra before it is sold out.

Nachdem die rare Collection Serie mit den ersten Abfüllungen bei Weitem nicht an die Velier Abfüllungen herankamen war der Ruf dahin.
Das hat man wohl auch bei El Dorado erkannt und jetzt mit dem Albion 2004 und dem Skeldon 2000
2 Mega Bomben auf Niveau der alten Velier Demeraras gebracht.
Trotz der 58 % sehr angenehm zu trinken. Die 18 tropischen Lagerjahre haben einen nahezu perfekten Rum ergeben.
Eine dezente Süsse mit schönen Fruchtnoten,Spuren von Rosinen und Marmelade aber auch ein Tick Holz ergeben einen wunderbar rundes Geschmackserlebnis.
Der Abgang ebenfalls sehr schön und lang.
Top für den Preis und offensichtlich gibt es im Gegensatz zu den alten Velier Abfüllungen auch genügend Flaschen.

Nose was like a sweet wheater bourbon with some kind of green melon. Palate got a caramel pudding and light cinnamon. Finish was creamy with baking spices...very cool overall

Enchanting aroma with notes of caramel, dry fruits, and a hint of orange zest. Its taste reveals a mellow blend of sweet caramel and herbal vanilla, beautifully balanced by woodsy tannins. It feels a bit sour!
