got a great deal on this 3x200 ml pack of a brand I was unfamiliar with till I saw it advertised for $40 Can. OK ratings on 2 bottles and better on the third. I had never tasted a peated finish rum.
First comment for all 3 - it is impossible to pour these 3 bottles without it dribbling down the side of the bottle. Second for all three: I found everything about them to be weak - weak smell, weak taste (except for the peated) and weak finish. Having now tried a peated finish for the first time, It was not as expected, all good and not offensive. Easy to sip, glad I tried but inconsequential to my rum journey.
EDIT - working my way through this 3 pack and mow onto the peated finish. didn't particularly enjoy this when last reviewed so used it in a rum and coke - bad move on my part. worst mistake ever as the vegital flavors came through and one note in particular. It tasted like licking an ashtray. as an ex smoker the taste/smell was unmistakable . Fair warning.
This is the first peated finish that I have tried. Unique and distinct; not sweet by any means. Overall a nice tasting sipping rum.
If it would taste like it smells…
Really promising sweetness and wood in the nose is killed by a lot of acidity in the mouth.
Could be nice marriage between rum and peat but not in this case.
Since it is a peated one it makes it exotic. Base rum is quite decent, a lightweight, column still one. But peat makes it a different spirit for me which is not my style. I can imagine some people like it.
I am not so familiar with this kind of aroma, so, my first impression was that I am tasting a haystack which was eaten up by a horse and gets sunlight again. Please forgive me, I am very new for this style of taste.
Tremendous nose! A whisky nose that is slightly sweeter and thicker. Smokey vanilla and soft notes of fruit. Very nice indeed. Entry is chewey, smokey nd dense. Nice balance here. Smooth across the pallat with oak and spice notes developing. Lovely long finish of coffee and leather with a bit of pepper right at the end. Great dram..............errrrr, I mean rum!. Yes whisky lovers, (like me,) will like this. So this begs the quetion; why aren't more distilleries experimentig with peat? They should. It adds depth, complexity and a distint flavor profile that enhances a quality rum. Slainte' for God sakes!
Taste is very close to whoisky. Has smoke and peat flavour
Nothing overwhelming. Has smoke and peat flavour. Slight aroma. Was surprised not a corked bottle.

Very tasty for those who love peated spirits. Finish isn't super long but has a great full smoky peat flavour
