Abuelo Oloroso Sherry Cask 15-Year

now this is a flight! discovered the 12 year year Abuelo recently and wanted to do a deeper dive it was so good. All 3 of these cask finishes were amazing. I'm familiar with the sherry finish from other rums, and a big fan, so was most familiar with this finish. It didn't disappoint and was superior to similar sherry finish offerings. these 3 tastings will put me over 100 and I have never been so happy with 3 rums. Search this out! you wont be disappointed.

8:On the nose, it's a ron, but with accents of prune and tobacco in addition to the more classic caramel and vanilla. After a few minutes, orange appears and an ashy impression is felt. Finally, it's not without a certain freshness.
8,5:On the palate, the attack is soft and the sugar takes up a lot of space. However, freshness remains, which helps to avoid extreme sweetness. Orange, vanilla and rancio are the dominant aromas here.
8:The finish is fairly long. It is driven by notes of vanilla, followed quickly by tobacco and rancio.
Smoooooth....

A wonderful dark rum. Incredibly smooth and easy to drink.

Sugar: Estimated at 30 GPL. Panama remains one of my favourite regions for rum and the Abuelo brand is one of the best. This Sherry cask finished rum is aromatic and has a complex flavour profile. Nice mahogany colour in the glass and the aroma is wonderful. I get a sweet wood smell like Sandalwood and of course the sherry is prevalent, but I also detected vanilla, caramel, and pipe tobacco. It's a bit sharp on the nose, so I would suggest that you let it breath for a bit. As for taste it's sweet and smooth rum with a lot of flavours with a long lasting burn. The sherry and smoke are there along with wood, and dried fruit which makes for a complex rum. I give this an 8 as it's just not as smooth as the Port Cask finished version.

Not the best from sherry cask,but worth a try for a rum lover

I was really wanting this one to be special but in the end I was left a little underwhelmed.

Although it is the lowest rated from XV family - this one seemed the most complex in the blind tasting. A clear winner for me out of three Abuelo XV rums.
Just let it breathe for a quite a while as the initial smell and taste might trick you.

This rum took me completely by surprise. To have a rum showcase flavours like this did is quite amazing.

It is smooth, has the Sherry taste you would expect from the aging, but the smoothness is beyond what I thought could be achieved in 15 years.

Perhaps sweeter than some desire that comes from the Sherry and is a distinct flavour note that makes this an excellent sipping rum.

I had never heard of this brand previously but now I want to try their other Finish Collection Rums to see how they taste.

I give this a nine for it's character and drinkability, there is no alcohol taste, there is no bite, this is just smooth.

...eine anstrengende Arbeitswoche hinter sich lassen, den Sonnenuntergang geniessen, den Tag ausklingen lassen. Da passt der Abuelo Onoroso super dazu. Ein abgerundeter, wohlschmeckender Rum. Der Sherry kommt nicht zu aufdringlich zur Geltung.
