I didn't expect a lot from this rum so maybe thats why it pleasantly surprised me. You wouldn't feel the strong alcohol but also it is not so sweet. Some wood notes in nose and taste, no flowers but oak, no vanilla but maybe even some pepper. Good enough but it is not my "choice for an evening" ))
This is only the second agricole I bought, I must admit I struggled with this one quite a lot. My initial feelings freshly after opening the bottle were not quite good, I struggled with the grassy notes in the smell and sour, minty, bitter tones in the taste, but after a few months of re-tasting, either my nose accommodated or the grassy notes got weaker, and also the sour, minty and bitter parts of the taste profile become mellow and quite entertaining. The nose is citrus fruits, lemon grass, lime, bit of wood, but directly compared to Sixty Six, Bajan in the same price bracket, the nose is quite weaker. The taste starts with tropical fruits sweetness, the comes spicy mid palate, with a sour and bitter twist of citrus fruits and mint candy, the end of the taste profile is a bit of chocolate and a hint of wood, long aftertaste, with lemongrass, mint candy and grapefruit. The rum itself seems well crafted, without additives, the taste is the most interesting part of it, very smooth, the wood is less prominent than in Sixty Six or Doorly 12, it took me quite some time to get to terms with this rum, but I am happy I bought the bottle.
Rum that is completely free of additives and matured for a minimum of 10 years. It is a non-chillfiltered rum, in which the producers "skipped" the last phase of filtration. As a result, it contains more fatty acids and esters, which gives it a richer and fuller taste.
Rum pochází z destilerie Medine (est. 1926), která je nejstarší na Mauriciu. Jedná se o blend: Doug McIvor z Berry Bros & Rudd a Jean Francois Koenig (master blender z Medine) vybrali 14 - 22 sudů. Výsledný rum dozrává 7 - 13 let v dubových sudech po skotské whisky (30%), koňaku (62%) a bourbonu (8%). Rum je nedoslazovaný a nedobarvovaný.
Batche 005 bylo vyrobeno 10 290 lahví, ručně zazátkovaných.

Definitely not one of my favorites. Bought this on holiday in Mauritius in the airport hoping the price would assure me something reasonable. It didn’t.
It’s bitter on the first taste and burns. Simple taste without much length. It’s keeping me going whilst I replenish my stock. For the same price (ish) get El Dorado.
