Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Expensive, no flavor, à lot of added sugar ... I Was expecting à more punchy rum. This bottles doesn't deserve the expense ... Its easy to drink, no aftertaste, smooth, but offer nothing special. Good rum but doesn't deserve the réputation and the Price.

This is the rum that got me interested in rum. I still enjoy sipping this rum. It is smooth with a little bite at the end. It is also very sweet... maybe even a little too sweet. Strong caramel flavors. Not a lot of complexity but a good rum that deserves a strong reputation.

And still one of my favorites. Straight up not quite so smooth as you would like, but with just a drop of water, (or a single small ice cube), it opens up and mellows out nicely. There is a lot going on in this rum. Honey, spice, a little oak, caramel, with a moderate finish.

When non-rum drinkers appreciate the smooth flavor and truly recognize for what it is - a cut above the rest you know its great. For the price and pleasure its a treat.
