Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This is pretty much my standard rum, what I serve to guests in a normal setting. It's good enough for the rum snobs, and will wow the typical drinker who doesn't buy the quality rums that can be sipped.
color ambra, deciso al palato con un finale lungo e speziato.
non può mancare in cantina
Sweet spices on the nose, finishes a bit harsh on the throat.
Sure this is a nice rum.
But in this price range I would have expected something more of it.
Zacapa is very popular and indeed a very nice sipping rum and i'm sure I will buy a new bottle in the future, but it's not a must have rum for me.
I'm more curious for the big brother XO, so I will be testing a bottle of that soon.
Teneur en alcool assez forte en bouche, je prefere les rhums plus doux.
A friend recommened this when I asked for a good representative for quality rums. Been drinking standard rums like bacardi and the cheaper variants of Captain Morgan before, mostly in drinks, but this is waaaaaay better!
In my taste this is just an overrated expensice mixer. It tastes of rum yes, but damn there's alot of spirit taste and nose in it aswell. Not my type of sipper, and when you cross 300dkkr then you're not in the mixer area anymore. Not if you ask me atleast.
Great taste (if not for the great spirit taste atleast) but expensive and just to mainstream.
very popular in good bars here in Slovakia but in this price range you should buy Plantation 20-th Anniversary XO instead. It is good sipper IMO.
I don´t really get this rum, everybody seems to love it! But i think it is just plane and boring. Not recommended. For near the same money you can get the Plantation Barbados Extra Old 20th Anniversary instead!
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Rum that is rather known than delicious

Here is my review of this world famous rum. There are already so many of them that it is not even worth to write too much.
Colour: Quite dark, very dark amber
Smell: After pouring into a glass, a strong alcohol vapour will "exhale" on you. This is quite surprising on rum with 40%. I recommend letting it breathe for at least 15 minutes, but it still irritates the nose a bit. I smell vanilla, caramel, slightly chocolate, spices and woodiness.
Taste: For me, it's better than smell. From the beginning, you can feel the sharpness on the palate, which will soften over time. Zacapa is slightly sweet. The taste is vanilla, butter biscuits, dried fruit, oak wood and spices (cloves, nutmeg).
Aftertaste: Medium long with a sweet finish.
Overall rating: 8/10
Conclusion: For me, this is a good rum, but it is more known than that it would be so good.
