Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

There's no doubt, Zacapa 23 is great for the premium rum industry. I'd guess its the most prevalent aged rum out there, and brought many newcomers to rum.

I like Zacapa 23 but not as much as Diplomatico, El Dorado, an others. It has a great rush of initial spice that dissipates quickly and leaves the mouth with a slightly oily sweet molasses finish.

For a ‘10+ year’ aged rum, I wanted more subtle notes. I get a blast of butterscotch and caramel with a little nutmeg and maybe even an olive note - but generally a little bland without much depth

Dans la meme gamme que matusalem, millonario...
Trop rond et sucré pour en apprécier toutes les subtilités

He would win a popularity contest. But is he this great?
One would expect yes.
It has a rich taste of sweetness and spices, and for the price tag he sure is a pleasurable Rum.

Jeg ville have rated den højere for 2 år siden, da jeg selv var ny inden for romuniverset.
Den er sød og behaglig, men mangler kraft og fylde efter jeg har smagt en del andre rom.

I bought this rum duty free about 8 years ago and has been my favourite since. I have come to the conclusion that if you are going to drink rum the best rums are the ones you can drink on the rocks.

This rum has subtle spice and smoky flavours and should only be drunk with ice.

Skal man starte et sted i rom verdenen kommer man ikke uden om denne flaske med bastskørt. En okay rom, med sødme og go smag.

This is pretty much my standard rum, what I serve to guests in a normal setting. It's good enough for the rum snobs, and will wow the typical drinker who doesn't buy the quality rums that can be sipped.

Sweet spices on the nose, finishes a bit harsh on the throat.

Sure this is a nice rum.
But in this price range I would have expected something more of it.
Zacapa is very popular and indeed a very nice sipping rum and i'm sure I will buy a new bottle in the future, but it's not a must have rum for me.
I'm more curious for the big brother XO, so I will be testing a bottle of that soon.

Teneur en alcool assez forte en bouche, je prefere les rhums plus doux.
