Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

It's one of the first bottle I bought specifically to sip. Needs some air to breathe & I prefer it over a cube of ice. Thick start, smooth finish
En trevlig vardags rum.

This is a rum with a great story and/or marketing, but it is really not worth the price.
A little too sweet for me. Positive point are the nutty aromas and the quality of how it was distilled.
Smooth, goes down easy, lightly sweet. Not as creamy as Centenario XX but easily 8 points. A good sipping rum for under $50.
Having been introduced to sipping rum with Zacapa, I will freely admit I may be biased. However, Zacapa is an excellent rum, I prefer it on the rocks, but any method would be good.
Extra Sweet to make it accessible to most, probably overpriced yet an easy everyday rum for beginners
After many a Havana club & coke Zacapa 23 was the rum that started me on drinking rum straight. I hear the critics about the actual age etc. Still to me its all about taste and and Zacapa has it in abundance. My go to sipping rum.
Jednoduลกe klasika mezi rumy.
I've heard this rum praised quite a few places.
But I don't get it. Relatively mild, sweet but not sugary, not much bite or nose.
It's OK. But nothing more.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Zacapa is an amazing rum regardless of anything. If you are lucky to be able to get ahold of one, there is no way you'll regret it. The pirates can criticize it as much as they want as if their opinion was the rule. The truth is rum is what it is, at least most of the time. That is, if you like less sweet versions of rum, that does not demerit Zacapa, that just speaks about your preferences. Zacapa has a smooth fruity, nutty flavor, not too long, which leaves a discreet, but very positive experience. I personally like to enhance it with lemon or lime and, when I am sad, even honey. The only shortcoming that I find is that I think it is slightly underproofed.
