Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Short review on this which is apt as this rum has short flavour, it doesn't last or carry forward in the mouth, short finish. Cant see why you would buy this over El Dorado 12 which this in such a different class. I only drink this if in a bar and this is the best offering.
Ordered this rum neat at a casino in Las Vegas. In the interest of full disclosure, I knew going in this rum has added sugar (among other additives).
I will admit my understanding of the additives present could be biasing my review somewhat, but…
This rum just doesn’t taste good to me. There’s some off flavors in there. It has a little sweetness, but isn’t nearly as smooth as I would’ve expected for a rum this old, and one with some extra sugar to help.
In short I was expecting a delicious rum where understanding of added sugar caused me to dock a point, but instead got a run that I didn’t really enjoy, period.
Sorry but I don’t know why this rum is so much expensive. Too much alcohol is feeling.
Trop agressif et peu de subtilité de goûts et arômes. J'ai fini la bouteille dans du Coca.
Note: I'm a sipper. My opinion is based on sipping characteristics.
I was really expecting something else. Like really. Upon first sip, it's already obvious something's not right. It feels like diabetes in a glass. Probably goes fine with Coke and other fizz crap, I would not know and would not care but sipping it is a suicide. And price-wise and age-wise, I certainly did not expect this to be a mixer. And you know what's the worst of it all? It hits you like a bloody train. I mean I've had many bad hangovers in my life but never *before* the day after. And with the Zacapa here, hangover starts manifesting as you sip. Now that's something radical but also a thing that won't get me buy this crap again.
Did not Enjoy this bottle att all. It is far of what i like a rum to taste like.
Seems like this Solera blend ended up with mostly “green”, young rums and not very much from the older, mellowed variety. Mixing with pineapple juice couldn’t even cover up the flavor. I won’t buy it again.
On a positive note, l do like the bottle.
I'm no rum expert but for me it was too sweet in a weird way, With no real taste and the smell was horrific
Ein wahnsinnig überbewerteter Rum, der mit seinem zugesetzten Zucker, seiner Färbung und der missverständlichen Altersangabe ein falsches Spiel mit dem Kunden spielt.
An insanely overrated rum that plays a false game with the customer with its added sugar, coloring and misleading age statement.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Seems some people like this rum and some people don't like the type at all. I tend towards the not at all crowd. My bottle have a strong aftertaste of harsh alcohol. Not smooth at all. It reminds me a bit of whiskey, which is good if you want whiskey I guess, but I don't like that taste in my rum. I guess it's from the cask. I like other rums which claim to have strong cask taste though so it's a bit strange.
