Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I bought this early into my rum journey due to it's high praise, but soon realized it is mediocre at best, if I want a sugared rum liqueur, I would prefer diplomatico. It's been reduced to cocktail duty or for tastings to compare and contrast what it is not vs real rums.
I've heard this rum praised quite a few places.
But I don't get it. Relatively mild, sweet but not sugary, not much bite or nose.
It's OK. But nothing more.
Nice bottle. Nice story about how the woven bands around the bottle are locally made. The rum inside is what counts though and it this case it does not count for much. I can appreciate a sweet rum just as easily as I can appreciate a nice dry bajan rum. But this rum lacks character and for the price, if I want a sweater rum there are several at a better price with better overall taste.
Fake thing with "23 solera". Zacapa as brand is using Solera incorectly. Artificial taste, but it is drinkable.
Perhaps the most famous example of top shelf adulterated rum.
Still a damn tasty tipple. Just think of it as a pre-bottled Rum Old Fashioned cocktail.
Raw sugar, baking spices, oak, and a refreshing hint of orange liqueur. Sweet, with good length on the finish. This is the gateway rum you show your friends after spiced rum, before moving them onto Jamaica/Barbados/Martinique.
Got this as a gift. Label is deceiving like other people have pointed out. Not aged 23 yr
Too sweet for my tastes. Like to drink good rums straight or on ice. Kinda gave me a headache. Friends who bought it really like it
Not sure about the other additives They added,
Have to try other zacapa rums
I see that this rum might be one of the better ones, but for me, it was not that exceptional. Nothing bad to say about this one either, though.
The RZ 23 was a rum I was looking forward to. It have some reputation. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it.
I mostly use it for drinks. It can be consumes straight but it's not very smooth or exiting to drink. It's a rum that I won't buy again.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Way too sweet, way too flat.
I had low expectorations about Zacapa, and I was still disappointed.
