Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Have to taste it again coz the bottle I tasted it from had a problem (tasted in a bar).

Funny nose for a rum. Nose of gin (genepi aromas). Berries with hints of mocha and caramel.

Short medium finish dominated by alcohol vapors and spiced flavors.

Det er en helt ok rom, der findes dog meget til samme pris jeg finder bedre. Smag: Sød, melasse.

One of my first experiences of rum, chosen due to the immense hype and advertising. It sure tastes good and is so sweet as to offer an easy introduction into the rum world for beginners. Only later did I learn that there is no regulation whatsoever in rum production, resulting in some shady business practices. The color of this rum comes from food coloring - necessary because it is mostly made from young rums. Unlike other rums which state the age of the youngest rum in the mix, this states the age of the oldest - of which anyone with business sense would not add more than a few drops of. And while I haven't found any proof of it, comparison with other rums makes it seem likely that Zacapa is sweetened a bit to arrive at the level of sweetness it has.

everybody knows the name Zacapa, even my mother and she don't like rum.... for my personal view they take care more about the branding and marketing than the product it self...

This rum has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It use to be good, sweet and complex. Now it is more sweetness and alcohol. You can easily taste that it now only have an average age of less than 6 years :-(

This one just doesn't work for me. Not too excited about taste - it just all feels drowned in alcohol. Too straightforward, trying lil too hard. Aftertaste is not that bad though.

Was the first Solera rum I had, its a OK sipper, quite nice with a bit of ice and drinks well with a mix.

Its mild on the nose with a pleasant aroma with a medium lasting linger. I really cant get a clear taste from the rum, apart from its fruity for me.

Only giving a 5 as the combination of expensive per bottle, with not a clear flavour means for price there are much better rums at a lesser price
