Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Rhum hispanique pour les amateurs de rhum sucré et caramélisé
Compared to premium rums, this one feels almost like a cheaper liqueur with rum taste. (almost..) The taste isn't whole nor complex, it's rather a mix of different ingredients somewhat working together. I guess some people might like it.. Maybe I'll give it another try some other time..
Overall if you’re a beginner in the rum world or just someone who enjoys sweet sippers this would be fine. Very easy to drink. A little too sugary for me, but if you tend to like Zaya or Diplomatico you would enjoy this.
Good rum, I was expecting a bit more based on the price and on other reviews, but still not bad. Not too sweet, not too strong.
This was my original review in 2017: Strong aroma, full body taste with strong caramels.
Today as of 2020: extremely sweet, but so sweet that it resembles an afterdinner. It reminded me the Diplomático reserva. Too much added sugar!
I enjoyed this one, but it didn’t jump out at me as particularly amazing.
Specificka ojedinela chut. Ale mna zaujal len na zaciatku potom mi vadil ten dlhy sladky dozvuk.
Yes it is Rom, with much alcohol so let et be in the glass for the normal 15 min before tasting. Then it will open a bit, but not worth Any money. Have har cheeper tasting better.
Ochutnal som tento rum 2 krat a pravdupovediac, rum povazovany za jeden z najlepsich vo svojej triede, som si predstavoval trocha inac... jeho chut ma nicim nezaujala.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Not a bad rum, and perfectly drinkable. Here in Japan, if a bar has a decent rum, it is usually Zacapa. And if this is all the bar has, I'll drink it. I've even owned a couple bottles when I was just starting out with rum. My biggest complaint is that, while it is good, it is way overpriced. You can find so much better rum for less money.
