Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Too sweet for my tast, to much vanilla, too much sugar. But certainly something for a beginner.

Ive noticed this blend is not always consistent, usually from storage factors. When it has been allowed extensive time to breath, it can be a really enjoyable complex sipper. It is a great rum, but I save this one for call glasses out - almost always reflect the deep flavor after settling.

Smells sweet. Tastes sweet. Fades quickly. Passable in cola, in fruit drinks, and frozen drinks. A tad too sweet for my palate. Rather smooth. Possibly suitable as a dessert drink. Also would be good in baking. Overall a decent rum with very limited uses.

I love Zacapa 23. It's my tried and true. A touch of sweetness for a long finish.

I was a little worried when I opened this and smelled nothing. Sipping it redeemed it a bit. Baking spices, rasins, and a little vanilla. Good but not as good as I was expecting.

This rum is good, but in my honest opinion I feel like this has been hyped up too much. I rated it an 8 and I like more sweeter rums like Zaya or Papa's Pilar. It's similar in taste but for about $20 dollars less I can have Zaya and it's better.
