Spotted a bottle while in a bar with my friend and immediately decided to give it a try. Bottled at 64.7% ABV, this rum is quite intense in aroma and taste. Initial smell consists of warm notes of walnuts and oak, with grassy and moderately acidic aromas with a hint of coffee. The sensations develop into more industrial, with notes of oil and grease. Ultimately, the aromatic profile becomes dry and woody, with some bananas and almonds in the background, spices and a smell of burning candle.
In the mouth the rum is pleasantly warming up, spicy and industrial. The initial sensations are composed of metallic and coppery notes with some woody bitterness. The experience continues with a strong glue taste, which is a turning point, anticipating the sweeter woody finish with dry smoke, bringing to mind a mouthfeel of smoking a cigar.
Though the finish is not too long-lasting, grease, grass and glue come back in the spectacular and intense aftertaste.
Although not stunning, it was a nice and surprising encounter. I will not hesitate the next time I spot a product of Belize.
- vůně jemná mléčná čokoláda, 64,7% není vůbec znát
- chuť jemná, žádný náznak nasládlosti, síla 64,7% velmi příjemná, žádná ostrost, mléčná čokoláda s větším podílem kakaa
Rum tasting with my buddy in Tampere continued with 1423 SBS Belize 2006 Travellers. Very nice bottle and label design. Mahogany color. Massive amount of fruits mixed with plenty of alcohol to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Strong and fruity burn at the end.
