Admiral Rodney HMS Monarch

Apparantly the british HMS monarch battleship fought in the battle of copenhagen (capital of Denmark). It received a fatal whopping and is now tributed with this fine rum. It's a blend of both bourbon and port cask ageing.
The port notes are surely present in the nose with red fruits like cherries and raspberries. There's also some wooden lacquer, brown sugar, vanilla and wet oak in there.
Its a medium bodied rum with a fairly large amount of sweet elements, but this must come from the port ageing, as there's no sugar added.
The taste is initially pleasant with naturally sweet port notes, then a more rummy character takes over with leather, sweet pipe tobacco and burnt brown sugar.
The finish is great with toasty oak and spices to even things out.

It's feels very balanced. Especially if you feel like a sip with some sweetness, but don't really like the added sugar offerings.

Noter af rosiner og vanilje og små touch af røde bær. Blød og sødme af farin, konfekt og kandiseret frugt. Lidt karamel. God lang eftersmag med dybde. Er egentlig ikke langt fra 10 og kan måske nå derop ved en ny smagning. En virkelig god rom.

Ängenehm süß am Gaumen mit Anklängen von braunem Zucker, Pralinen und kandierten Früchten. Im Abgang dominieren Noten von Eiche und tropischen Gewürzen.

Sweet aroma with caramel notes. Rum have little and subtile burn. Recommend for all

Tento rum jsem si dovezl z malého výletu do sousedního Rakouska spolu s lahví La Hechicera Serie Experimental No.2. Otevřel jsem jej až doma a očekával nějakou výraznou vůni, ale necítím vůbec nic, až na lehký závan melasy. Chuť je velmi příjemná.

I love the way these old school bottles look in my collection, presentation alone you expect a very good rum and this did not disappoint. Not as full body as some of the other release, nice port notes but not overkill.

Great to accompany a grilled meat and meeting with friends

just 40% abv but have alcohol burn in the nose ? aroma of vanilla, in the mouth is dry, vanilla and brown sugar, expected more from a 6-9 years old coffey still distilled, bourbon barrels are evident, but port barrels gave it just some sweetness ? in the mouth it have a little bitter aftertaste ... but ok, at least is additives free, bourbon drinkers can enjoy it ! by the way in their site i don t see it, so it s an old edition, hurry up and buy it before it s gone if you want to try it ...

Another typical "navy" rum.
Nice, sweet but not so complex.
