I tried this one at the destillery in Madeira. It gives you about the same experience than drinking a Havana 7y. Quite spicy and it burns.
What a great entry to Madeira rum!
Very nice Molasses smell and finish. A bit sharp in the mouth.

Sweeter tones of madeira wine and fruit combined with raw sugarcane burn.

Green bottle with golden label. Aged in madeira wine barrels. Quite dark color. Madeira wine in tail, ethanol body and gentle aroma.

Kdo navštíví Madeiru, měl by navštívit i malé, ospalé městečko Porto da Cruz, kde sídlí palírna, kde se vyrábí rum Agricole.

The distillery Engenhos do Norte is on the island Maderia (part of Portugal). I bought this bottle in the distillery, which is still powered by steam and quite interesting to visit. The rum is made out of fresh cane juice and is in an unusual simple green bottle with wax seal and a cork stopper (I used a wine bottle opener). A fruity and ripe rum at the same time, medium sweet, somehow unbalanced, but somehow still a nice sip.
It’s sweet and very rich.
"It’s very much like a red wine but with some added oak chips."

The Madeira Island 970 is a 6 year aged agricultural rum, produced by the company Faria &Filhos, in the village of Calheta, in Madeira Island. It is produced at the rhum distillery of Engenhos da Calheta. Madeira's island rum, commonly known as cane spirit, is a rum with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) produced in the portuguese island of Madeira, obtained exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation of sugarcane juice. It is classified as an agricultural rum, presenting quality and unique characteristics, the result of traditional production processes and the accumulated experience over generations.
The distellery of Engenhos de Calheta is located on the south coast of the island, has a press equipped with 3 old mills datdd from the 19th century where the electric engines have replaced the steam engines. The distillation process is carried out in three columns . The particularly humid subtropical climate of the island causes mainly the evaporation of water, the alcohol content varies little during aging. There is also a salt side on rums aged nearby the sea.
On the nose, the Reserva reveals a nose of candied fruits, rancio, honey, dark chocolate and coffee. On the mouth it is spicy and very aromatic. Faria & Filhos company is producing quality rums since 40 years. Some of the vintage rums they sell are aged 30 years! This rum is one of the best rums I've tasted and it deserves to be know worldwide!
