I got this rum as part of a Rum Ratings tasting kit, and based on the other scores and the price, I found this to be a huge surprise.
I like rums on the sweeter side, and this is perfectly sweet.
Vanilla, toffee, nuts, oak, herbs, and spice. Really good to me, especially for the money! Now I'm eager to try their XO!
Had just a sample for this tasting so it’s just a first impression, but I’m sure that I won’t buy me a bottle of this.
Ron Canuto 7yo is produced in Ecuador, at the Destilería Zhumir C. Ltda., which was founded in 1966.
It’s produced from molasses and distilled in a copper pot still whereafter it’s aged in white oak barrels in the southern highlands of Ecuador before bottled at ABV 40 %.
The aroma is dominated by alcohol and vanilla. In mouth and palate and during the the rather short finish it tastes the same, but also some caramel.
Hard to believe that it’s aged for 7 true years. Can’t definitely not recommend it.
Picture: My emptied sample.
Nose is vanilla and fruits with a quite strong alcohol smell.
On the palate it is a pretty strong alcohol taste for just 40%. Then it tastes a lot of vanilla and it is very sweet.
Finish is kind of short.
It is a pretty weird rum due to the combination of sweetness and strong alcohol taste.
Drinkable but I probably won’t drink again.
This is clearly a sweetened rum that doesn't do anything for me ..
Nose
Oak, chocolate
Tasting
Teeth rotting sweetness
A average tasting rum. Not overwhelming. Mild aroma. Shippable rum and good for a change to palate.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Nice amber with copper reflections in the glass.
In the nose really solid and heavy. Wooden notes take up a large space, freshly cut wood, planed wood, toasted wood, burnt wood, wood covered with moss, rotten wood. There is also fruit, fresh fruit, caramelised fruit, fruit dipped in chocolate, candied fruit.
On the palate a very elegant appearance with a subtle sweetness. Chocolate filled with light caramel and candied fruit in a chocolate coat, the wood tones play discreetly in the background and underline the sweet aromas.
The caramel and chocolate linger on in the finish.
A great sweet rum that is not so sticky. For beginners and connoisseurs, great price/performance ratio.
