Light golden amber in the glass.
In the nose mild and floral. A colorful bouquet of fruits and flowers, somewhat wildly and lovelessly assembled. Caramel, vanilla and wood nuances dilly-dally without motivation.
Mild and soft on the palate. Light aromas dominate the picture. Some fruits try to push themselves into the foreground, but fail due to the confusingly arranged flowers, vanilla, caramel and woods.
The finish is soft and floral. The caramel and woods are quickly gone, a large meadow of flowers withers very slowly and a bitter blade of grass is left behind between the teeth.
A simple, pure rum blend that is quite passable, to mix but also to enjoy neat. For beginners, mixologists and lovers of unsweetened rum.

Tasted it a couple of times at my friends' who likes its purity and "spartan attitude". It's okay but don't expect much character or something to truly love on. If discounted I still might be buying one.
EDIT: this was the easiest rum to distinguish from others during a rum guessing contest which I consider to be a good aspect. Also the second yummiest for me. Such a smooth sipping rum with no pompous bottle but focused on the actual quality. Just elevated the rating.

other than the rather thin/watery mouthfeel that comes from the low abv. Nice flavors, not very complex but really solid compared to other 40%ers.
Especially the fact that they did not add sugar gets a big thumps up from me. Great bottle to give to a beginner. Bottled at a higher strength this could be easily a 7 or even 8.

After opening the bottle, an overpowering rubbery smell hit my nose. The taste seemed almost watery as if the smell numbed my sense of taste. This fortunately got better after a few glasses and few weeks. The nose is vanilla, spices, fruits, the taste is a bit one-dimensional, I would say as a spicy blend of very young and maybe some unaged Bajan and Jamaican rums. It has a substantial alcohol bite and the aftertaste is also prickly. For me it is hard to find any traces of wood, even in the smell of an emptied glass, where the woody tones always come out - if there actually are some. The taste is not entirely bad, the second part of the bottle is actually entertaining, but the blend badly needs aging. Plus point for no sugar added.

A dry rum with a rather sweet and fruity nose (prunes, apricot), vanilla and oak. This should be a 100% pot still blend but it is less estery than their 'Selected Rum' that has only 50% pot still rums in there. The estery part feels more Barbadan or from St. Lucia than Jamaican though there is some Jamaican rum in the mix. Despite no added sugars the rum feels almost sweet and is certainly easygoing and mellow.

Body is light rather than medium but it is really tastefull and mostly fruity with a bit of the barrel to it. It is the cheapest of all Ultimatum rums (around €20) and the only one bottled at 40% ABV. Medium long finish with sweet notes and oak. Well worth the money but clearly less full of character than their 'Selected Rum'.
