I finally got my chance to try a rum from Costa Rica. Since this distiller has mixed reviews on this site, I did not want to spend too much on my first try. I was hoping to find the 12 year old, but that one was not available. This 7 year old was only $18 and was basically a no brainer to buy.

The aroma is of subdued alcohol only, but there is no burn on the tongue or going down the throat. Super smooth, but not enough complex flavors to satisfy rum sippers. Whiskey drinkers could use this one as a gateway to the wonderful world of rum. There appears to be no added sugar. If the price is right, I would risk the bucks on other rums from this distiller with higher aging.

As for the bottle, it has been redesigned from the teardrop shape shown here. It is now tall, slim, and cylindrical like the 25 year old. This is a very good thing because it now takes up less room on the shelves of liquor stores and encourages them to carry it. As avid rum collectors already know, don't ever be fooled by the fancy shape of the bottle that tries to hide an inferior product within.

Nice sweet rum and coke rum. Was my staple in Costa Rica on many a surf trip. With some melted ice and lime can suffice when the coke is gone.

Sink and drown me! This be a right fine rum for a seven year old! She smells sweet of vanilla, brown sugar, oak, cola, and a hint of spices. She tastes how I prefer me ladies: smooth and spicy with a little sweet. Aye, this rum be dryer than most, so any of ye biscuit-eaters thirstin' for a candied dessert rum can weight anchor and set sail. There be a hint of smokiness on the finish, and there be a hint of burn goin' down the hatch, but with somethin' this tasty, only the dainty candy-lovin' lubbers will complain. This rum be worth a shot... or twelve. Aye, that be a pirate pun. Arrgh!

My parents brought me this from their Costa Rica holidays and for the price it's decent. Enjoied it with just a little bit of ice.

For the price (comparable to Bacardi) nice flavor. Enjoyed on the rocks. Pretty bottle.

Considering this is very cheap rum, 6 is a great score. Very good value for money. Some sweetness, not too much alcohol sting. Almost good enough for sipping but will definitely be best used for mixing

Bottle: Nice bottle 1/1
Colour: Very light amber
Aroma: Not so rich but pleasant 0,5/2
Taste: Midly sweet but I do not taste anything specific. 2,5/5
Aftertaste: Smooth 2/2
Generally I like this rum when I go on a trip. As a first aid kid. It is not fancy drink for the evening. Never tried it as a mixer but I'd guees that would be great.

Tasted at Laka Lono on 6/4/23.
Rich gold color. Big vanilla aroma. Mild chocolate. Toffe and vanilla cream flavored. Finishes with a mild citrus tingle.

Very smooth although the one we are able to purchase in Canada tastes slightly different than the same one in Costa Rica.... not as flavourful and was a different bottle but under the same name.... odd but still great.

Lots of vanilla. Pretty solid rum, but I don't really want to sit and sip it. Great mixer for 20 bucks.
