Bacardi 8 rum

Bacardi 8

CJ
had this rum recently

United States | Aged | 40% ABV

Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.

This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.

This is one of my favorite runs. Perfectly blended and a great every day rum at a decent price. Lots of oak vanilla and a bit of Sherry. Don't use ice with it a small splash of water unlocks its beauty

Bacardi rums are some of my favorites. Great sipping rum, smooth, woody and smoky flavors

This is a wonderful sipper. For an 8 year this has great flavor and body. A great value.

Really nice tasting rum. Smooth, with a little bit of smoke and a lot of dark berry fruits. Definitely a sipper. If you like Appleton, this is a rum for you. Also one of the cheapest out there, no matter where you are. Sorry Bacardi haters, but sometimes you gotta give the devils their due.

Like anything involving the island of Cuba, I think politics plays a role in anything related to the island, not excluding rum.
I've read the reviews of Bacardi 8 and I think an inherent anti-Cuban exile bias plays a review.
I will state that I am a Cuban exile living overseas, and I have bought various variations of Havana Club while living outside the U.S.
I have tried Havana Club 7 aรฑos aรฑejo as a sipping rum for my weekly Old Fashioned, and just purchased Bacardi 8, as my local supermarket had it discounted at half price.
After drinking Havana Club aรฑejo 7 aรฑos for more than a year, I much prefer Bacardi 8 as a regular sipping rum.
I drink it with an ice cube, and it goes down smoother, with less burn, than Havana Club.
Sorry to dispel the naysayers. I know it's cooler to favor the brand that actually comes from the island.
But Bacardi carries on its heritage.
Viva Cuba Libre.

I live in Puerto Rico now, so I am enjoying working my way through Caribbean Rums one by one. Even though this is officially an eight year-old Rum. But the specs on this one state that eight is the youngest Rum in the bottle. Normal Bacardi leaves me flat (at best). But being that Bacardi is made here in Puerto Rico, I wanted to explore their broader range of Spirits outside the mass market firewater available on the middle shelves of the mainland mega-marts.

What a pleasant surprise! Excellent body, good legs, drops cling like gems to the side of the glass. Full of vanilla, orange zest, and toffee notes along with a hint of pineapple and toasted oak. The high rating is a function of quality AND of value. I paid about US $25 and would have paid above $30 (shhhhh ... don't tell them).

I'm surprised to see this rum rated so low. I have really enjoyed it so far. It stands out with a really nice barrel spice, like you find in bourbon and scotch. Yet it is very well balanced not to sweet or spice. Has good complexity and long delicious finish. A real sipper for sure!

I'm not one to buy the expensive stuff, so this one I my current favorite in the under $25 range.

Nice subtle smoky flavour. I prefer as a mixer but can be used as a sipping rum in a pinch.

Smooth, smooth, smooth! Very drinkable. Subtle Smoky, woody, spice notes. Not overly sweet with great character and depth. Very enjoyable!
