Abuelo Anejo rum

Abuelo Anejo

Panama | Gold | 40% ABV

All great stories have an inspirational beginning, the same as Añejo has been for Ron Abuelo. It’s our youngest rum, both in age and spirit. Añejo is a fun and enjoyable first impression to our Panamanian rum making tradition. Where all the great stories begin.

I tried Anejo after having the Anejo 12 as I like to see what the range of rum tastes from a maker that sells a similar rum at different levels and if I can tell if the tailings are more present in the budget rum. This one is definitely a young rum though better than most young rums. The low price makes this a rum that beats shelf expectations.

Bottle: This is old school rum labeling, which I really like rather than overly crafted designs made to attract the eye and deceive the brain.
Color: You cannot see the rum due to the bottle being brown, but the rum is light yellow.
Bottle Smell: Young rum, a little harsh, light oak, something of the sweet smell fermented molasses.
Glass Smell: Opens up and smells better, little bit of sweetness.
Taste: Hard on the tongue, few oils, this continues to the throat. A good rum odor does linger in the nose. Better than most large label rums in its price range.

I enjoyed this rum and would drink it again. An good value for mixing or carrying in a flask on the go.

Despite being a young rum, it has a nice taste and aroma, comparable to many of those aged for a longer period. I prefer it on rocks, but could go neat, as well.

This to me exemplifies what a standard rum should be. Very versatile.

Still entering in the ron world i decided to try this after Barcelo Gran Añejo. The Abuelo costs around $2.5 more (it was an offer that came with two glasses) but the quality and the taste of this ron is so much better. From the moment i opened the bottle i felt the sweetness of it and i tried it pure and it was just so good that i didn't wanted to mix with anything else. I just had it pure or on the rocks. Most experienced ron drinkers would probably not recommend it to drink pure/on the rocks but hey, just give it a try. It's a great ron, i don't believe i'll find a better one on this price range.

That's cheap so I wasn't expect much.....but that's nice surprise.....maybe nose is nothing special...but taste quite good. I feel something new there. If you thing about cheap and common rum that's very good example to try.

To the nose there are hints of vanilla and caramel. Not too sweet, luckily. Passes the "eye-test" (alcoholtest) with flying colours.Drink it neat, from a tasting glass (no tumbler!!). Lingering taste. Great value for money.

Very smooth and enjoyable to drink. Not happy about the smell but it tastes much better than it smells. Very smooth.

It's hard to believe this is rum. Barely passable as rum. Drinkable, but barely.

Not bad. Not bad at all. It's quite drinkable but.. smell is much more expressing than actual taste. While your nose is screaming OMG!! Your tongue ends somewhere around meh. But still okay rum.

Great entry level rum. I prefer it on ice, lemon and mint with loads of ice but can easily be appreciated straight.

Well, this is just rum, you can buy for low price and you wont be disapointed - fair play.
