This is either an excellent mixing rum or just a fair sipping rum. Almost too good for mixing. Unfortunately, it's just not great as a sipping rum. It has a good caramel nose. Sweet vanilla at first. Then spicy a bit nutty but quickly turns harsh. Just not smooth enough to be a good sipping rum.

I've read lots of info regarding how Foursquare Distillery is commited to achieve their rum flavor only by art of fermenation, distillation and aging, without involving chemistry lab to mess with the final product and finally I decided to go for RL Seale 10-year old.

I expected some heavy taste to hit my tongue, more than that, I was quite sure I am not yet ready to fully appreciate the work of people from this Barbados distillery - and I could not be more wrong! Pour yourself this 46% ABV magic into the glass and you will witness how wonderfully smooth and complex it is. Pure pleasure for sipping, for such a low price. Moreover, you know what you are buying, as clear statement of age comes on the bottle - this fella will not deceive you with misleading information just to put its hand on your wallet.

Second time I sipped RL Seale along with Zacapa XO - although XO is also definitely worth trying, question appeared in my mind: will I spend so much money for it again, when a true rum, with clear age statement and no additives can be purchased for much smaller price? For me, the answer is NO.

If you are on a stage, when sweetness in rum is your thing (so you enjoy the sugar added), try RL Seale 10 year - for me it was a game changer.

Curse me for a cantin' mugger! This be a busy but outstandin' rum! She smells sweet of oak, vanilla, and a hint of caramel and fruit - bright like a fine day at sea! On the tongue, she be the perfect sweet with plenty of taste to talk about! She be smooth with pepper and spices and a bit of cocoa, and on her backside, there be raisins... and a fruit I can't put my finger on, but it be a sudden burst of sweet, crisp, clean fruit... like a green flash on the horizon at sunset. If you can't taste it, have MORE. It be there, maties! Some pasty landlubbin' biscuit-eaters might whine that this rum be "too dry", but the rest of us know better! This be an outstandin' sippin' rum! Pollute it with other libations at your own peril, but on THIS ship, that'll get you introduced to the sharks! arrgh!!

It would take a few bottles of these to convince me that there is a better rum for value anywhere. It could easily be double the price.

I've read other ratings on various rums and have seen how people say the sweeter rums are good for beginners. As a newby I'd agree as I've found Diplomatico RE and El Dorado 12 very tasty and easy to sip, so when it came to Seale's I wasn't as keen. However, having tried again and giving this more time in the glass, I've discovered extra levels and a very floral bouquet, a sweet perfume that makes me wish I knew how to separate the different aromas..I first rated this at 7 but it's since gone up to 8.5.

This was a spur-of-the-moment purchase when I was at a Total Wine in Delaware. Living in Pennsylvania, my rum selection is fairly limited (though they are getting better), I had never seen nor heard of this brand. Naturally, the bottle design drew me in, and then I saw the 22$ price tag for a 10 year aged rum and figured it was worth a shot. Very good flavors and aroma. On the rocks is where it shines. Let it air out for about 10 minutes and then add ice. Really helps it open up and show its true colors. Excellent choice for the price. I can't think of a better aged rum at the price point.

A nice sugary nose, with some hints of tropical fruit.

Initial taste is a little surprising as it isn't as sweet as it smells.

Really good depth to the flavour with some oak on the finish.

Nice harshness in an alcohol burn but comes through a little 'thin' and taste fades quite quickly.

Tasted this back to back with the Real McCoy 12 yr old (also from foursquare) which tastes older and more developed but not as good.

Even if this wasn't good rum you should get it for the bottle which is like a melted candle but with a very ergonomic shape. Looks very cool and feels amazing in the hand.

I will revisit this rum when I don't have a cold, but from what I can tell this will go on my top shelf with my favorites.

This is the bottle that first got me in to rum.

I'd seen in Barbados and was put off buying it due to the gimmicky bottle which I assumed was designed to sell a sub-standard drink. I opted to buy a bottle of Mount Gay XO instead, then later I visited the Foursquare distillery and tried the rums and it blew me away. Incredibly smooth - my favourite rum so far. Once home and tried it against the XO which itself is a very good rum, but can't compare with this. Sadly a bit of a rarity in Europe though the bottle occasionally can be seen standing out in good cocktail bars.
