Already aroma is not typical agricole.
Not wild, even a bit smoked.
Taste is warm and strong, complex with fruits, wood and grass. Finish is bit better but very long. Very good aged agricole. 9.5 points.
Normally people tend to say, that old rums are smoother than younger ones, but although it has an ABV of 61% and has 'only' been aged for 6 years, this rhum agricole is amazingly smooth. The alcohol is perfectly embedded in an ocean of different flavours and not the tiniest bit harsh.
Directly after pouring, it has a weird and medicinical smell (which fits the style of the bottle very well) but if you give it some time to breathe, it opens up rapidly.
From that time on, it feels like the rum changes its flavour profile every few minutes. Overripe bananas, honey, black tea, cucumber, Pinot Grigio, some orange, mango, burned wood, tar, glue, spices, cream, hop, elderflower and tons of other flavours I were not able to identify yet are dominating or fading to the background. Every smell and every sip feels different than the ones before, and everytime you start to think that it settled down, you are hit by the next surprise. One sip feels creamy and sweet, the next one more light and fruity, then heavy and burned and the next more sour and fizzy. And this goes on and on.
This rhum agricole is far from everything I had before... and I absolutely love it! It is not suitable for every occasion and I am quite sure, that lots of people will be overwhelmed when drinking it the first time, but this is one wild ride of a drink!
