Smells delicious, sweetness and ripe bananas. On the palate it is a little harsh, although the elements of mild sweetness come through. Made a Marlin cocktail (from Beachbum Berry's book, Intoxica) with it and Clement XO, which was delicious.
This is my first clairin. I was attracted by the price point and the fact that it’s a blend of 4 spirits from different regions of Haiti. This is good because you get a rounded spirit, however you do lose the complexity of the 4 individual spirits as they are unique and shine differently on their own. The nose was really sweet, lots of overly ripe tropical fruits. The palate was very much the same. Over ripe fruits, bananas, sugar, and a vanilla cake batter in front of a tiny amount of brine. Finish is quick, and the vanilla cake batter dominates. Overall it’s tasty and the price wasn’t bad. Similar in flavor to a Jamaican overproof rum with the heat turned way down.
7,5/10
Similar delicious profile compared to it's single distillery brothers. Just bit more sweeter, somehow flatter ( - 1 point), but still rich aroma and taste. Absolutely smooth, oily on palate. Warm long aftertaste.
Minus second point due to lack of fine art box )
Funky and sweeter than most clairin I've had, it's not without the brine and olive I associate with the spirit, but it's a little less interesting... But maybe more accessible. If you already love clairin like me, don't go out of your way for this, but give it a try if you're new to the style!
The Clairin Communal is a rhum from Haiti 🇭🇹 and is a blend of clairins from four different producers, namely: Sajous, Vaval, Casimir and Le Rocher. It's bottled at 43%ABV and is geared a bit more for mixing (say a classic daiquiri), but here I'm going to try it straight.
On the nose there is cane, lime, plantain, ginger, slight tomato-paste, mild olive brine, and flowers.
The palate is cream and cane syrup, and the finish is pepper, mint, cream, and ginger.
If I had to compare this to another Clairin, I think it's closest to a toned-down version of the Sajous. It's highly sessionable, easy to drink, and perhaps a good intro to clairin. I think it's a nice rhum on its own, and I can report it also works well in a daiquiri.
If you don't like vinegar, capers, olives or gherkins, go somewhere else.

Its an ok white rum 6 out of 10
Clairin Communal is a blend of four Haiti distilleries. Casimir, Vaval, Sajous and Le Rocher. The bottling from Velier is made in the pot style and bottled with a drinking strength of 43% as unstored white rum.
Lots of floral notes on the nose. Hay, Lemongrass and Sugarcane. Plus some fruit. And the rum smells a bit rotten. So far so good. On the palate, the rum falls off significantly for me. The rum here is also very herbal with grass and sugar cane. But here it also tastes a bit like liquor. Some fruit and a light candied sweetness don't help that much. In addition, it seems a bit thin and watery.
I'm honest. I don't really like this rum. Well suited for mixing cocktails and the price is certainly fair. Glad i only hat a 2cl sample. That was for free. Thanks for that.
Dazu etwas Frucht. Und der Rum riecht etwas verrottet. So weit so gut.
