I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big Zaya fan to start with but I received this bottle as a gift, and decided to take it with me on vacation. Some acquaintances I know really enjoy Zaya and I was determined to challenge my preconceptions, while I was away. Alas, I confirmed that Zaya does not dance with my pallet. It is a smooth rum, but the taste is just “off”, and I lack the ability to effectively describe just how bad this rum tastes. Good thing I brought the Mt Gay XO with me as well!

Great Sark colour, sweet, bit a Little bit to much vanilla for me

I mixed this with coke and it turns out well. On the rocks I find it has a strange aftertaste. But overall a good sweet rum.

This is what I'm afraid of with new rums I've not tried before. I got burned with papa's Pilar Hemingway rum... Same thing. This stuff is almost terrible. It's so fakely imitation maple syrup cotton candy fruit sweet. I literally can't taste anything other than fake industrial molasses flavorant. I tried it neat, rocks, with tropical juice, with tonic, with lots of fresh lime juice, slightly mixed into other Cocktails.... Nope. It ruined every glass I made it was involved in. I was tempted to throw out the glass too... Stay away from this rum. Unless you prefer the fake maple syrup at a free hotel breakfast over actual 1 ingredient maple syrup from a tree....

Good Price $$$
1st introduced on Disney Wonder cruise out of NoLo “French Quarter Bar” immediate fan. Got home in SC and found at Frugal McDouglas. #2 so far on my list behind the Brugal 1888. Great mix with Coke 0 double shot extra ice wine goblet. How I do my rum.

A good rum with a very noticeable hint of vanilla, goes great with coke in the right proportions.

Initially a bit strong and the first sip was harsh and heavy with etoh flavor.p As I let it breath it changed quite a bit. The vanilla is pretty forward. Not as complex as I was expecting. Many other reviews felt it was too sweet but for me it definitely wasn't.

Beautiful aroma. Sweet but not too sweet. If you don’t like caramel and vanilla don’t buy this.

Really impressed. Sweet, which is my flavor profile. Great nose with a flavor of mint chocolate.

On the nose, VERY vanilla.
Tastes very carmel, toffee, butterscotch - ending with vanilla and a STRONG bitter flavor.
Very long finish.
Definitely not anything like the "whisky-like" dry rums most of us prefer (Pusser's, Appleton, Plantation).

It is a blended rum, but it does have the brown sugar flavor of very old (XO) brandy, so it seems that there's a decent amount of 16ish-year-old rum in the recipe.

Decent if you're using it as a dessert rum, or for people who don't normally drink rum neat.
(There was never any sticky residue in any of my glasses, so they don't seem to be adding much sugar.)

Final verdict: it's not one I would get again, and it's too pricey to buy solely as a mixer.

Heavy vanilla nose. Soft mouth, smooth. But, there is something funky that has a chemical quality on the back end that I just don’t like. Charred plastic maybe?
