So I thought I'd give the very hard to find 10yr old a go. A screw top but not cheap metal was a bit of a surprise.. but the aromas when opened filled the room. Beautiful what I thought as sherry notes abound.. dark berry and stone fruits , unlike the grassy , white fruit traits of agricoles ? Left in the glass for a good 20 mins , sips very well , slightly sharp but im hoping this will dull down as the bottle gets time to breath. No real burn on the way down... recommended if you can find it.

Ottimo rum, bouquet aromatico bello complesso e speziato, finale persistente e complesso.

Aroma is fresh with grass and fruit. Taste is smooth and not burning (good for beginners, but experienced drinkers can find it too weak :-) with again fresh tones of apricot, grass, flowers, honey and wood. Aftertaste is longer with typical agricole finish. Perfect value.

The Damoiseau Rhum Vieux Agricole Millesime 2001 10 years is from the Bellevue Distillery on Guadeloupe. The Rhum was allowed to store in Ex Bourbon barrels for 10 years and was then bottled with 42%.

The Rhum is restrained and sweet in the nose. Fruity, woody notes combine with grassy Agricole notes. The rhum is balanced and the aromas are evenly perceptible. Unfortunately, everything is a little restrained. On the palate, the Rhum is a bit watery at first. Some sweetness and clear bourbon notes combine oak, caramel and fruit. At the end, there are clear Agricole notes. The finish then has some sharpness and barrel notes are there to stay. Bitter substances are quite intense here and persist for a long time.

For me, the Damoiseau is too thin with 42%. There is something lacking in depth and body. It is also very influenced by the bourbon barrels and the Agricole notes are not strong enough. But it has a good complexity. The Rhum gets a little lost between the worlds and can't keep up with the JM XO and HSE XO.

This is bizarre agricole , it's more like aged distalate that I have ever tasted from Damo.

Starts off with sherry & raisan notes on the nose which is unusual for a Rhum . Honey comes through on the nose .

The taste is typical agricole of vegatation sherry, port , sweet oak wine ...this is a good Rhum to drink but feel the 2009 is miles in front

Rhum agricole z Guadaloupe s nádhernou zlatě medovou barvou, úžasným a bohatým aroma a velice velice lahodnou chutí.

Chuť do čokolády, ovocie, banány, citrusy. Skvelá volba

- vůně velmi příjemná jemná, káva a cukrová třtina
- chuť nasládlá, jemná, 42% dává o sobě vědět, vanilka a i ta skořice je cítit, dlouhý skoricovy závěr

Cracked bottle with great anticipation, mildly disappointed in screw top( I love a cork). Poured into brandy glass gave a good swirl and long sniff, the flavour filled my nose and mouth even on the exhale, good start! I sometimes think that I enjoy the anticipation more than the actual drink. Anyway, a good mouthful and swish revealled a rum with enough punch to let you know that you are drinking a serious spirit but with very little harshness. Just enough sweetness to pay homage to the sugarcane and a beautiful finish that leaves you wanting the next mouthful!
Not exactly what I expected, but a very drinkable rum , definitely worth a try!
