Mon premier Hampden, aucun regret, le rhum jamaican dans toute sa splendeur...
Quite special strong, very specific, something to remember
I am typically a fan of unaged or lightly aged rums so it’s tough for me to review this Hampden. It’s funky it’s hot it’s Overproof. It does make one hell of an old fashioned
A good amount of caramel and burnt pineapple but still pretty dry. Not as fiery as you might expect for the high percentage, but still fiery enough!
Probably the best overproof I've tried, but be warned - don't try and drink the bottle in a single session or who knows where you'll end up!
intense but not that boozy, aroma and flavor changes continueously while the bottle opened. Nice overproof rum on its price range.
Aged 8 years in Jamaica
100% Pot still
Wild fermentation
Unsugared
Uncolored
Nose: Musky, caramel, smoke, salt, banana, spicy
Palate: Super "dark" and pungent. First comes a short wave of very salty caramel, then loads of pepperiness and loads of leather, smoke and oak, overripe bananas, some weird muskiness like
very dark seed oil of some sort, minerality.
Finish: Stays for a long time in mouth, especially the leather and musky aromas, after some time you get a hint of sweetness and vanilla.
Overall: Amazing rum, huge amount of pungency and flavour for not over the top amount of ester marque rum. Infact i would say this is like smith&cross cranked to a 10. Wonderful rum with wonderful heritage.
A lot more oak and woody notes.
"The finish is really nice and warming. Again with some really nice oak aged notes and a really nice balance."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I tested this one in a blindtest, it was the one with 60 ABB. . At first I couldn't fiigure wether it was jamaican funk or an agricole rum.
Nose: Hay, ripe apricots, green fruits, a lot of esters some oakiness but not much.
Taste: green bananas, apricots, burned almonds some butterscotch and vanilla.
It's a real treat that demand to stand for a while or even in need of some extra water. It changes in both taste and nose over time which I think is very appealing.
8/10!
