Hampden Estate 8-Year

Sampled at a Rogue Rum Club tasting 5/25/22. Aroma is very funky- lots of Jamaican funk. Palate is metallic. Chocolate, nuttiness, spicey. Very good, but somehow all these flavors don't come together. Did not live up to the hype.

Slightly spicy on the nose with hint of vanilla. Much more spicy on the tongue. Clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, smokey oak and something fruity I can never quite pin down. Maybe pineapple.

Dejlig rom med typisk duft og smag af Jamaica. kan give lidt ekstra hvis den bruges i cocktail.

wow is the correct word for this rum.
very defining tast, probably the high esters, can not compare to any other brands.
probably a lot of people will not find this one to their taste but i like it a lot

today added this bottle in my bar,
yes it s a little bit strange rum, cant compare to any other, i feel smokiness,
a fruits symphony, apricot, croissant, bubble gum, vanilla, spicy, dry, but hey it s so good,
have a pleasant finish too, its not cheap here so no mixer, it s a sipper, very complex,
reminds me to some good single malt, 46% ABV and 100% pot still !
here on this site of course people gave bad ratings, most of them they are devoted to so called premium rum that are sugar syrups full of additives and they don t know those product are adulterated with additives ! this Hampden is a real spirit for connoisseurs ! no matter what
spirit someone prefer, a very good rum is good for all drinkers ... you prefer mezcal ? this rum have some smoke too, same for scotch and single malt drinkers, you prefer cognac ? find me one so fruity like this rum please ...

Some really nice funky tones followed by arrak and over ripe tropical fruits, butterscotch and chared oak with good integration that almost gives you a touch of whisky.

I found this one from Hampden to be a little harsh… very spicy. If it the only Hampden available to you, still try it! It is very funky, and a great pot still rum. But this goes down like Hampden Overproof. Their LROK 5 has a fuller flavor profile if you can find it. Still great though!

Ce rhum a le caractère d'un jamaïquain, mais reste reste très accessible. Bien pour découvrir ce terroir.

Couldn’t taste or smell the funk at first but suddenly opened up with a really nice, mellow, funky experience. Really enjoyed it!
