Full Body with strong wood backbone. Aromas of plums, bananas, almonds, vainilla, and caramelized sugar cane. Exceptionally smooth on the palate with a natural sweetness and smoky wood finish.
This is a very powerful but utterly delicious rum! It's fairly sweet and oaky with light tones of leather.
Age: 20-35 years in a sherry cask
Color: Dark amber
Nose: Apple-cinnamon butterscotch
Palate: Ripe fruit and banana with a good amount of brown sugar-cinnamon and a hint of raisin
Finish: Same notes with a soft tingle and long finish. Smooth as warm butter!
Boy, this stuff was good! If the Four Star is candy, then this one is unfiltered candy! The bottle is $700 before tax but if you are baller enough to afford it, you're sure to love it! It is currently the second best rum I've ever had! If given the opportunity, drink some without further delay! Were I a rich man, I would have bought one but I'm not, so at $700 a bottle, I will just have to live with the memories of the 2 ounces or so that I got to try.
This rum is truly one of a kind. Complex aroma and flavors. The finish is mild and not sugary. Almost negligible afterburn. It's expensive but worth it.
Once pour into the glass, you can smell the aromas vanilla, almonds, wood. Super smooth, just excellent
So feels stronger than the 4 star, nose has a little more burn as well, longer lasting sherry type finish with a light peppery kick really really good but I like the 4 star more. Taste stays on your lips for a long time which is great
I tried this at the hacienda along with the 2, 3, and 4 star barrilito rums. It's thick, dark, and complex. All sorts of things going on in this rum; tropical fruit, oak, vanilla, island spices, clove... In the end, I liked the slightly younger 4 star's fresher flavors. The 5-star had a bit of a musty flavor to it that is something to experience for sure, but not as enjoyable as the 4-star in my opinion. It's more of a 9.5 rum, but I knocked it back to 9 for the price. They sell it for $750 on-site. It's probably too expensive, but it's from some very old barrels that they cleared out. Then again, when it's gone it's gone. It's very real rarity is not artificial.

Disappointing for the money 8 out of 10
I was really excited to try this rum at ~$1100! This isn't a bad rum at all, but for the price, I was hoping I'd like it more.
Smells and tastes of molasses, vanilla, oak, almond, and sherry. VERY smooth, but this just isn't one of my favorites.
Maybe it's a bit too dry, but it has a sweetness to it. Maybe it's too mild, but it has a lot of interesting flavors. Maybe it's too aged at 35 years, while my ideal aging is about 18 years.
This rum does have a lot of goodness to it, but I simply like other rums better. Cost didn't factor into my rating.
