had this rum recently

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

Okay, not my first review - won't be my last. Let's get into it:

1. The package is good, not exceptional but good. The bottle looks great, I personally cut the straw away so I do not lose my grip on the bottle but you do you.

2. The smell, like walking in the caramel-vanilla factory. It's really good and much better than anything Cuban I have had.

3. The taste, well let me explain how I drink it first. So I opened the bottle, poured me-self a shot in a cognac glass (because I shall not be drinking capt'n rum in a crew-glass piece of thumbler filth). Now, I let the rum rest, like a baby, it will rest for 10 minutes. Then I take my sip and I play with the rum in the fore side of the mouth so the sweetness can do it's work on the proper side of the tongue. Then I let it go down the throat. In this fashion you will experience a very mild burn and an after taste of sweet caramel vanilla dripping on the tongue warming it with some alcohol. The taste itself is good and better than anything Cuban I have tasted.

HOW NOT TO DRINK IT:
In a thumbler with ice and drinking it like water. That is just burn-burn and it will taste wrong and I think thats where some bad reviews came from - they just drink it like its lemonade but remember: IT'S RUM FIT FOR A CAPTAIN.

So keep in mind: When you drink this rum, drink it properly, it's a slow-drink. Like you'd be arguing who gets what loot with your quartermaster and navigator.

Im Vergleich mit einem Zacapa 23 oder Centenario 15 kann er leider nicht ganz mithalten

I've just cracked open my bottle of this and had my first dram and wow this is seriously good rum. Its even better than my current favorite which is El Dorado 12.

Its a very complex rum with a creamy feel with notes of oak, coconut, spices, toffee and chocolate. Everything is perfectly balanced from the sweetness to the smooth taste which all builds up to a fiery finish from the alcohol giving you a strong warmth as you swallow. The taste also lingers in your throat for a good while after. Its also not as dark and heavy as some rums and has a lighter feel to it on the taste front.

I can't see how rum can get much better than this. Wow!

Fantastisk rom til kun 499.-
Min favorit af Plantation rommene.
Dejlig rund smag, med lidt karamel og vanilje til sidst.

The body is fluid and smooth, it has a mild dark color. The overall pallet will have flavors of oak and vanilla. I was extremely and pleasantly suprised with this rum. For the price and availability it deserves a high rating, the overall flavor and taste sits very high up there with many fine cognacs that are 3x-4x the price. After having my first glass chilled and then making a simple rum and coke with a dash of vanilla extract I knew this was something special. I ordered an entire case. You cannot beat the price point for the quality!!
