Worthy Park Estate operates in St. Catherine, Jamaica and is producing what I would qualify as "balanced-funky" pot still rum. Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve is bottled at 45% ABV and is made up of rum matured in ex-bourbon barrels aged anywhere between 6 to 10 years.

I must admit when I first opened this bottle I was very disappointed; I found the rum much too spirity. However, this element didn't stick around long, and what was left is one very refined Jamaican rum.

On the nose there is orange, orange zest, dark chocolate, wet cardboard, ginger, pineapple, mild funk, slight oak, sea, nutmeg and a slight plantain.

The palate is orange, cream, mint, chocolate, slight oak and vanilla.

The finish is cream, dry, almond and mint.

While I think this rum would have benefited from a slight ABV bump, I found it has developed to one of my favoured spirits in the cabinet. I look forward to trying more Worthy Park.

Bananas and caramel most prominent on the nose and they are the most prominent on the way down.Goes down smooth with a nice little heat. Definitely no added sugar here

The nose is pretty restrained. Mild funk, bit of solvent, and an undercurrent of oak. Taste is similar, though just as I swallow, there's a brief passing richer tone of funk. Then the dryness kicks in, with varnish and oak, and a slightly off note. The finish is long, with a bit of numbness, and more of that dry varnish vibe.

I much prefer it to Mexan XO - it's more balanced, with a bit more going on - but it's it's pretty simple compared to a Hampden. It's a more complete drink than LROK the Younger, but the 8YO blows this away for richness, complexity and depth.

Overall, I can happily sip it, but that off varnish vibe doesn't do it for me, and I want more than funk in my rum. A little underwhelmed.

I may have fallen in love! A chunk of funk up front. A nice full body and an easy, lingering finish. It’s like having the better half in liquid form. Smooth, clean flavour with no need to mix. Well worth the price.

Super dejlig rom, med lidt skarphed uden den bliver gennemtrængende. Let frugtig smag.

Purchased at Pike's Liquors in NY. Medium golden color. Considering this is at 45% it is fairly smooth.

A very fruity smell, a little bit sweet. The taste is light bitter and sharp, later in the mouth it gets sweeter and more fruity.
The finish is rather long.

I had heard of Jamaican funk and this was my first experience of it. Not sure that I like it. A crazy smack on the nose - lots of ripe pineapple and banana and maybe mango - but which thankfully dissipates after about 15 minutes. Once it settles down, it’s quite a well balanced and dry rum. It’s certainly worth the experience for something different but may be an acquired taste. Glad that I bought two bottles and will keep trying it over the next year to get a better measure of this unique rum.
