I love Jamaican rums, and this one blew me away. Pure pot-still Jamaican rums that have such wonderfully crafted progressions on the palate, and have such wonderful flavor and aroma are typically rare finds. The shelf at my local liquor store had at least 10 bottles on it, relatively untouched with a $25 price tag.
The qualities of this rum are undoubtedly Jamaican. The classic banana and pineapple character is given different floral dimensions, while the mouthfeel has a degree of richness and oily texture without feeling sweet. The finish in lingering and delicious; I can't seem to get over that oily character (coming from long-pond distillates).
I believe 10/10 rating on a spirit is an extraordinary rating reserved for only truly special rums. Some might wonder about the seriousness of giving a $25 bottle such a rating. My reason is this: while there are many examples of excellent Jamaican pot-still rums out there, many showcasing more aging or overproof qualities, how many are readily available at a $25 price point, and with all the exceptional character noted above? This is a special rum - A welcome new addition to the Plantation lineup and a permanent addition to my shelf.
Loved this rum. It is relatively inexpensive if you can get a hold of it. But super enjoyable and can drink it on the rocks.
Tried this the first time as a lil treat from the bartenders at the Inferno Room, as part of their shift drink. This review is from notes 8/8/21 at Laka Lono.
This rum is so totally identifiable as a pot still rum!
The vanilla flavor is omnipresent and yummy!
I really enjoyed this one. As the name says itโs very dry but in GOOD way. I donโt do tastings note in my reviews. But its not thick sticky sweet. The price is VERY responsible for what you get. Good enough to sip cheap enough to mix. A whiskey scotch drinker would enjoy it. I will definitely buy it again.
A lovely dry rum , basically comes from Jamaican stocks that plantation have released as prrof that they can still produce good rums without dosing the liquid with suger.
On taste your palate is shown flavours of bannana and pineapple and loads of Jamaican funk!!
The aftertaste is beautifully dry which for me personally is a bit too dry and I'm a massive dry rum fan ...
Great showing
Pure pot still Jamaican hogo with a hint of fruit, pineapple possibly but retains that funky pot still style in a crisp clean flavor. Perfect for tiki mixes and not a bad sipper as well if you enjoy Jamaican funk.
I was very pleased with this rum! Nice smell, lively fruity flavor, well composed taste...
This is the tastiest rum I have sipped to date. I am not spectacularly well sampled, but have had a number of staple well rated rums, and something about Plantation Xaymaca takes the cake.
It's fairly dry, has a dark fruit tang, and a sour, earthy punch that dominates the palate. If I tried this cold turkey, I feel like I might have hated it, but in the midst of smoking others, it struck me hard and continues to do so.
At this juncture, I can't say anything more than "I'm definitely buying more of this"
This is an amazing rum and somehow makes a symphony around being fruity, funky, and dry Alm at the same time. Wonderful on the nose when you pour it neat and after it breaths for just a minutes it really opens up and releases the fruit and ester but not in a solvent way. Itโs smooth going down and hardly any sweet which is a good change for a plantation rum. Well done.
A really nice spicy delivery.
"Quite spicy, quite a lot of heat โ white pepper, ginger and all spice."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I love this rum. From my limited options I find this has more hogo than an Appleton signature but much less than a Wray and Nephew overproof. I get notes of cherry, orange, and wood. Fantastic in a Mai Tai.
