Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry

Hint of jamaica, but lacks the power and funkyness.

A very special smelling expression from Plantation, but I found it dull and uninspired on the palate.

I remember Plantation Jamaica 2000 19yo 50+° ~150CAD. This one is 4 times more affordable and, basically, has the same taste.
Funky, a bit spicy, fruity and absolutely authentic taste.

If there was ever a rum to confirm my dislike of Jamaican rum, this is it. If plantation cant a good rum out of Jamaica then I doubt anyone can. Smells bearable with that characteristic vegetative and acetone smell of jamaican rums but then just tastes of banana leaf. Save your money, and dont even buy as a mixer.

Ďalší Plantation v poradí skúšam Xaymaca Special Dry - fľaša je dobre známa, na etikete čítam o klasike jamajských pot still rumov. Vôňa je silne aromatická, zachytávam pre Plantation už dobre známe tóny citrusov a ananásu, zemitosť charakteristickú pre Jamajku a na pozadí dokonca trochu technickej syntetiky. Suché rumy mi predbežne nepripomína. Chuťovo je naozaj trochu suchší, ale nie prehnane. 43% alkoholu však doslova bodne do jazyka, je dosť ostrý, trochu do whisky. Je komplexný, svojský, vzdialene mi pripomenul Pusser's Navy Blue, akoby som znova zacítil primiešanú domácu slivovicu, našťastie nie v tak veľkej miere, dojazd je dlhý. Pri konci pohárika mám už ústnu dutinu značne vyštípanú, takmer stŕpnutú. Narovinu priznávam, že preferujem jemnejšie a uhladenejšie druhy, ktoré sa viac točia okolo dubu. Zatiaľ pre mňa najmenej zaujímavý kúsok od tejto značky.

A nice one with a cup of coffee. Hade higher expectations, but it's more than the average but not at the top. Well done but you can do better.

"Special Dry" is quite correct. It's fairly smooth and tasty but it's very dry. I still prefer sweeter rums to dry but this is decent and reasonably priced. If you enjoy dry rum, you are likely to like this.

Initially, I was very puzzled by this rum. A strange earthiness reminded me of agave spirits, oddly enough. However, after more time with the bottle, I was introduced to notes of banana, apricot, and Jamaican funk (represented in pleasant and bright flavours, rather than Appleton toastiness). I decided to challenge myself to find a place for this rum in cocktails. My findings... it was a lot easier than I thought. While not 1-to-1 with Jamaican staples like Smith & Cross or Appleton, it's bold and unique flavours sit in the same area and keep cocktails just as balanced - simply adding a different dimension.
On its own - eh. In cocktails - a fun new tool.
