I'm enjoying agricoles more and more, having for years rather shied away from them.
This is a good solid rum, with a gentle sweetness of fruit accompanied with a good spice. The alcohol is well integrated and leads to a good, long finish.
Bought in a French supermarket. Good value. Maybe a 6½ or a tad more, but to me, more 7 than 6, mainly due to the surprisingly long finish.
If you want to try an agricole rum for the first time, this is a god start. Quite smooth in your mouth with fruity flavours.
Indeed Good rum...
Bottle cost was just under 50€ so after some discount I feel it is worth that
On taste, this is what I expected of real rum to taste, not to sweet with a lot of body. Lot of fruits taste, you can smell that cellar in Martinique.
It is a bit stronger but just what it has to be, a bit more sure.
So far very good impression, bottle is just opened, first I took sip now having late afternoon mix with mocca coffee.
Delightful rum it is. Real one. Cheers!
43% agricole rum from Martinique made from sugar cane juice. Aged for 6-10 years in pure oak and bourbon barrels.
Bottle: Taller, narrow and square. Very nice design.
Colour: Dark amber.
Aroma: Completely different from all the rums I have tasted so far. Musty, sweet, grassy, motor oil, spruce resin. It's really strange, but interesting!
Mouth: It's a real massacre. Chopped bark with resin, subtle sweetness, ginger, citrus peel and liquorice.
Finish: Long and quite pleasant.
Summary: My first encounter with agricole rum. I didn't know what to expect. I have such conflicting feelings about it, but I quite liked this rum. The flavour peculiarity was definitely to my advantage. To say that I like agricole rums, I have had drunk quite a few of them so far.
Rating: 8/10
usually i really love agricole rum, in 2019 i was in martinique and tried a limited edition
saint james also 6 years old in a small square half litre bottle (la cuvee speciale) and i remember it was very good but i didn t wrote the review than and so ...
this one have a very nice dark color but it smells weird, ok i let it stay in the glass (really
strong alcohol burn in the nose) but the weird smell remains, like it was aged in
a rotten barrel, and in the mouth also this is the main flavor, so you have to
think a lot to find some normal rum note ...
will try again in some months, to see if with open bottle it improves ...
for now it s really a delusion, tomorrow will try the 12 years old, hoping it will be better ...
Bought this bottle in Taiwan. In total it was 1700NT (55 USD).
Nose: woody, leather, tobacco, and something sweet like prunes/pickled plums.
Flavor: very much as it smells. The sweeter notes are more present in the finish which is rather long.
Overall I'd say it's a nice agricole. I've had Clement XO and Rhum JM XO. Each are quite unique and enjoyable, but I'd say I prefer Rhum JM XO as my go to when it comes to agricole. There is nothing added to these rums, so if you are looking for something sweet then it's not for you. I'd say that's why one can encounter such variety in people's scoring.

Sophisticated Cognac like sweetness.
"Strong ex-bourbon cask notes, give a wonderful spiciness on the palate."

Saturated With Spices 6 out of 10
Gold colour going on amber. The nose is vegetal on the sugar cane and menthol. There is a delicate woody. On the palate, it is very hot on spices, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon. It's not long in the mouth and the end is always on the spices that for me take far too much on the rum. It's too bad.
