In the glass, it’s a sincerely a dark Rum. It looks the part that a Pirate would love. Like a lightly watered down coffee. On the nose I get pineapple, orange and chocolate with a hint of that molasses source. On the lips, that first sip, the Rum is sweet and rich. No big burn straight away.

In the mouth, rich brown sugar flavours emerge quickly, followed by bitter orange and apricot, it was oddly sweet. Those are the flavours persisted over several sips, not changing to much. In the throat it’s slightly above mild, a small amount of heat develops over time. It’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination. The finish is where this Rum looses points. It’s dry and bitter. The rich molasses flavour from the start is lost. Shame really. I think it’s alright but not stunning. There are far better Rums out there for the same low price point.

I rank it a 6 out of 10 because of that lingering bitter finish. Then again, that 6/10 is a sipper, straight up, neat. I generally use it as a float on “Boat Drinks”, Rum and fruit juice concoctions. Just carefully pour it in last right on top of an ice cube to keep the lighter spirit at the very top of the drink. It’s a great topper as an alternate when you can’t find any Black Seal for the same purpose. Enjoy mixed in Coke too. I say, just don’t serve it neat unless you're a Rummy.

A great holiday drink. Frothy when mixed with cola. Strong Molasses. Good burning finish

A bit of alcohol on nose. Smooth, but watery on palate. Classic and pleasant demerara taste, not too sweet, just Ok.
Worth it's 25$.

Step1: find rum section in local liquor store.
Step2: look at bottom shelf, for cheap looking label and screw on cap.
Step3: have your mind blown.

It's dark, sweet, delicious, and I passed it by so many times! I'm glad I found this site, because I would have missed out on this amazing rum.

The packaging actually do a great injustice to this product, making it look like a low quality hooch rather than a delicious mixer and sipper. This one is enjoyable on rocks or not, mixed or straight. Its sweet, oh Lord yes, but such a great flavour and nose.

Notes of molasses, spice, leather, and wood, and a pleasant and smooth bit of burn.

I tried this in a dark and stormy, and preferred it over Goslings. This is definitely going to stay in stock at my home.

Smells a bit acetone but is most pleasant flavour than that. Hints of pineapple. Pretty good for the price.

Rich Carmel and coffee, toffee tones, it reminded me of a candy your grandparents kept in an metal tin.

Just found it in local liquor store (BC) and love it especially considering the price - $25, and the fact that Eldorado 12 price jumped to $38,
I guess it's not as "refined", though. While most reviews say it's better mixed and/or with ice -I enjoy drinking it neat.

The best Demerara I've found but sadly not available where I live (Saskatchewan). Any time I travel Young's Old Sam comes back with me. The only Demerara the local government liquor stores stock is Lemon Hart so that's my substitute and the occssional Caribbean.

Super dark in the glass. A hit of butterscotch on the nose and you can even smell the sugar! Lots of sweetness on the palate. Other flavors like vanilla and cinnamon join the butterscotch. Would love to try this in a horchata. Hits a bit like a spiced rum to be honest. It's a bit on the thinner side but with a lot of sweetness. There is a special spot in my cabinet for a cheaper rum that can be mixed but also sipped straight up. Will definitely do in a pinch, especially at $30CAD!

Purchased bottle in Halifax Nova Scotia. Tasted on 4/23/23. Pours dark brown in color. Roasted sugar aroma. Slightly woody. A bit of vanilla and caramel. Has a strong up front burn that subsided into a mildly bitter and sweet toffee. Quite good for the crazy cheap price.

Tasted at Rogue Rum Club, courtesy of the Wyatt collection. Obtained in Nova Scotia while on holiday.
Aroma: like the best coffee cake ever - buttery cinnamon brown sugar goodness
Flavor: I like the aroma better, although as this cools down I can taste the brown sugar again and perhaps some oak. This is a rum to wait a bit on before making a judgement... let it linger.
This would be excellent with cola and some cherry 🍒
