The taste was good but not very special. No after taste, not really any new spices. Good but a dime a dozen!
Great bottle! In the shape of an old monk. My choice of rum while in India. Don't drink it on ice if in India!
Great bottle, very unique. However, the rum is mediocre.
Its a rum with a typical rum taste. I'd Say if you like Brown rum. You will get this down your throat
use and .........................................................................enjay it
Definitely smoother but not refined enough to distinguish itself from XXX.
Not a good rum at all, over the top sweet with a hint of coffee.
After about 4 it just gets too much and it's time for a change.
No going back there.
Starts with Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, brown sugar, caramel and vanilla extract then fades to a slightly bitter aftertaste. This rum feels like it was heavily back-sweetened with brown sugar to hide the bitter note, resulting in an overly sweet end result.
Not undrinkable but also not great. At around $18 it is not expensive , however there are better choices in rum for the $20 price point.
Itโs very sugary, caramel, toffee, brown sugar.
"Old Monk is very much a molasses, chocolate, toffee sweet rum rather than tropical fruits or lighter notes."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I opened the lid and was instantly intrigued. This rum has a GREAT nose. Then I looked at the label closely. โOld Monkโ. Distilled in India?? I immediately smelled the English along with the great dark rum nose. Looked it up. Sure enough a Scotsman during the British Empire years in India opened a brewery. It was turned into a rum distillery by the locals. Well, they did a pretty nice job. The taste doesnโt quite live up to the fabulous nose but it is Very good. Lots of vanilla and cloves. Smooth It has some body. It has some bite. It is a real mouthful. Not too sweet. Medium long finish. Better neat than on ice. Good price too!
