Surprisingly good! Has a unique taste, probably a little tough for most to appreciate neat, but I went through the bottle in about a week so it can't have been too bad ;)
The Amber tones are like Amber. This is Old Sam's little brother only not as sweet and thick with less of a leathery finish. It would be better as an overproof, but its not offered without spices. While it's probably nothing like the original I keep grabbing it off the shelf.
Screech was the name Newfoundlanders called their home brew - this is much better stuff, I'm sure. It's in my cupboard now, alongside my favourite Old Sam Demerara (also marketed by the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation).
Realy good taste. You should try it. Don't suit everyone but I like it.
Had the real backwoods Screech while a young naval officer and made an honorary Newfoundlander. Had the older commercial rum and the newer versions. The commercial stuff is not like that made out in the woods. If I recall Aunt Martha's sheep were not moose at all. Not sure I could really tell.
I was surprised at the dark colour and the sweet flavour as I thought the brand might just be a marketing gimmick. However I was happily satisfied with the sweet flavour especially for the low end price tag.
Almost a sipper for only $28 at the LCBO. Amber colour; nose of spice, brown sugar, vanilla and caramel. Light toffee flavour with a hint of brine and a spicy finish. Not a heavy Jamaican Appleton style and that is good with me.
A little alcohol bite to nose thou very smooth with banana notes mainly. Sweeter rum. Not bad
This is good stuff. It has a lot of Jamaican funk” but in balance and with some great traditional flavor. Lovely nose. Great color. Nice bite. Not sweet with nice oak and molasses notes, traces of banana and vanilla. I’ll drink this over Smith & Cross any day. It is as good straight up as it is as a mixer. If it’s like kissing a cod like one reviewer advised, then pucker up codfish. I am ready. Nice finish. Nice rum. For $20 it is a STEAL. I may come back and give this an 8. It’s that good. Bravo Newfies! This is now a permanent denizen in my liquor cabinet.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Much better than expected (It's raunchy reputation is unfounded)

This rum has an inviting dark/rich red colour. While it does have a slight rubbing alcohol smell to it, I found a sweet and spicy odour as well. It's too strong to sip, although I did not experience as much of a burn as I was expecting - It left a nice sweet film on my lips. It's surprisingly good with cola - Fairly strong spice (although I don't know of what) along with a little sweetness. A 6.5 for sure!
