Similar to Old Sam, drinking this makes you an honorary Newfoundlander. Good enough reason to drink it once.
A Rum you have to try at least once! Quite a punch; not high on my list, but still in the cabinet.
This really isn't very sippable, so doing a shot is rather nasty. Drinkable if mixed, but not great.
I had to of enjoyed this rum it got me to kiss a cod.
Screech was the name Newfoundlanders called their home brew - this is much better stuff, I'm sure. It's in my cupboard now, alongside my favourite Old Sam Demerara (also marketed by the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation).
Sugar: 0 to 5 gpl. I was expecting it to be very harsh as it's normally given as a rite of passage or a dare. It's a decent rum with strong taste but not distasteful. Goes well with Coke and I have not tried it with anything else. I did give it a taste with no mix and went back to get some Coke and ice.
Having been to Newfoundland I had to give this a try so picked up a bottle while in Michigan. This rum is a blend with a Jamaican base that shines through without off flavors. It's surprisingly smooth, too. Considering the price point, about $19 US in Michigan, it's a fairly good buy. I tried this as usual: neat, neat with water, chilled and on the rocks. It held up wll for all four.
Expected a harsh rum that indeed would lead to a screech. Instead is a tasty rum with a nice finish
This is a decent spirit all around. The color in the glass is nothing less than spectacular. The scent the excellence of this spirit is aware in the nosing and glass. This smoothness is amazingly apparent. The taste is quite flavorful. This is a great spirit I highly recommend this. Straight up no rocks.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
