When I picked this bottle up to support a local distiller I was expecting a cheap overpriced overly sweet rum, I was dead wrong. This rum is very smooth and has hints of the honey flavour without going overboard. The only negative is it comes in a small 375ML bottle and is quite expensive. However, If you looking to support a local Canadian distiller and are looking for something a bit different then I fully recommend it.

I tried batch #3 - marvellous rum!
Description from the website :
Traditionally, Rum is made from sugarcane byproduct, usually molasses. Never one for tradition, Wayward's Drunken Hive is crafted from molasses made from caramelized BC honey instead.
After meticulous fermentation and distillation, we aged Drunken Hive in a single full sized Makers Mark bourbon cask for a full year. Just before bottling we add a little Comox Glacier water and a touch of our Caramelized honey before bottling at 42.5%
The result is absolutely amazing. Dark Fruit and Pecan on the nose, a rich Caramel Brulee body and a wonderfully complex Smoky Honeycomb finish.

Okay so first, a little backstory. Between my colleagues and I, the concept of a Canadian Rum has been a little divisive, given that traditionally, rum is made from sugar, while Canadian rum is made from Honey. However, with that aside, this product for what it is, is actually quite good. It's sweet, warm, and welcoming on the palate, with hints of toffee, vanilla, honey, and pecan. It works well in a majority of different appropriately paired cocktails, and is rather enjoyable to sip neat or on the rocks. The only this I should mention is that if you buy this product expected a traditional rum, you might be let down. Keep your expectations open and the result might surprise you.
