This rum was on my shelf for some time. I finally got occasion to taste it and it was not bad, bud it dissapointed me a little.
The flavour and aroma is very melassa like, but it is not very sweet. The alcohol burn is stronger, that I would expect.

So my first sip was like "wow, it's incredible". But next I drank a variety of other rums, read this and that about spirits and... couldn't get out of my head feeling that Dos Maderas is just too sweat. That the whole mouth and overall experience is shadowed by sugar.

I'm giving it 7, I'll gladly drink it again somewhere, but I'm not sure if I'll buy a whole bottle by myself again. Better stick with Botucal or Plantation.

Blend of 2 rums from Barbados and Guyana aged for 10 years, then refined in PX sherry casks.
Alcohol: 42%

Nose: Aklohol note, caramel, cocoa (dark chocolate), some fruit
Taste: Raisins, caramel, vanilla, a bit of pepper and tobacco. The alcohol spiciness is well integrated and quite pleasant
Finish: long, again a slight alcohol spiciness and also sweet caramel again

In my opinion, very similar to the much cheaper Dos Maderas PX 5 + 5. I don't think the additional cost of around 10 euros is justified.

PALATE
And we can all agree that we are quite happy and satisfied with solving this task. Dry and sweet at the begging, just like 5+5, but then oak starts to take a role together with sherry. It is still dry and sweet, but now it continues to develop aromas slowly, like with every moment we are finding something new. Like raisins, baking spices, apricot…Even I dare to say a hidden floral notes, usually characteristic for agricole French rums. But only in traces. What I find also interesting is that sweetness doesn’t come from added sugar. It comes from sherries.

The nose is rich, dried fruits, cherries in bitter chocolate, vaniline, touch of oak, touch of nail polish, but nothing much has left of the typical citrus fruits of Barbados - they are barely present - the smell rather reminds me of rums from Venezuela or Nicaragua. The taste profile is bitter-sweet, balanced but also surprisingly simple - with sweet dried fruits, turning into bitter chocolate and citrus peels, then comes spicy, surprisingly boozy afertaste with noticeable added sugar in it, with peppery finish. Score between 6 and 7. For this money - not entertaining enough. Review based on 0,2l sample.

This was a blind buy for me… read about it a bit & went ahead & bought a bottle.. I was amazed by it. Smooth down the throat, great smell, amazing taste, presentation is great & what a color it has! Would definitely recommend.
Shared it with friends & we all loved it. Planning on getting another bottle asap..
