Mycket god,söt och smak av vanilj. inte så lång eftersmak men fullt tillräcklig.
Ingen alkoholsmak alls.
I like this rum, it is soft, sweet and it is keenly priced. Yes, I must confess, I do like sweet rums. The limit for me is 40g of sugar per liter (yeah Zacapa), everything higher is just too much. For those who doesn´t know, this one has cca 35 g/l. You can smell vanilla, sherry and caramel. The taste is very soft at the beginning, but than it shows this beautiful middle part, which burns a little and reminds you - "it is rum what you are drinking, not some lemonade". The aftertaste is woody, dry and sherry sweet. In the Dos Maderas family I prefer this one. Dos Maderas 5+5 is good, but after you taste the Selection, you don´t want to go back. If you compare it with Luxus, well, Luxus would win at the end, but the price is 3x higher. So, choose wisely. Personally, I have this rum always ready to take a sip or two.
Especially for the price this is great.
The three countries gives the blend an excellent balance. Really love it
Blend of 2 rums from Barbados and Guyana aged for 10 years, then refined in PX sherry casks.
Alcohol: 42%
Nose: Aklohol note, caramel, cocoa (dark chocolate), some fruit
Taste: Raisins, caramel, vanilla, a bit of pepper and tobacco. The alcohol spiciness is well integrated and quite pleasant
Finish: long, again a slight alcohol spiciness and also sweet caramel again
In my opinion, very similar to the much cheaper Dos Maderas PX 5 + 5. I don't think the additional cost of around 10 euros is justified.
PALATE
And we can all agree that we are quite happy and satisfied with solving this task. Dry and sweet at the begging, just like 5+5, but then oak starts to take a role together with sherry. It is still dry and sweet, but now it continues to develop aromas slowly, like with every moment we are finding something new. Like raisins, baking spices, apricot…Even I dare to say a hidden floral notes, usually characteristic for agricole French rums. But only in traces. What I find also interesting is that sweetness doesn’t come from added sugar. It comes from sherries.

Pleasant variation from the Dos Maderas rum family 8 out of 10
Sugar: 35 GPL. I like sweet rums and Dos Maderas is one of my most favourite rums. I was excited to see that there was a new version and asked my Florida liquor store (Captain's Liquors in Port Charlotte) to bring in a bottle for me. I rushed home to sample it beside the standard 5+5 PX. The Seleccion is a tad less sweet and you can definitely taste the Guyanese rum influence as well as the Bourbon casks in this blend.
It's very smooth and has a bit more burn than the PX, probably because it is 42% alcohol and has that Guyana influence. The Sherry influence is still dominant, caramel, a bit of oak and vanilla along with dried fruits like figs, dates, plums, anything dark. I really like this rum but I like the 5+5PX just a bit more. I have done several more tastings and I rate this as an 7.5 and I will have to round up to an 8, because the original blend of 5+5PX is a better buy and has better taste profile.
