Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

aunque no es el 1706, este ron esta a su altura, esta alrededor de $30, pruébenlo y no se arrepentiran
Not too sweet, and it has complex tastes. One of the my best favorite rum in this price range.
One hell of a good rum and worth buying. IF you are looking for a rum that's not been played like adding extra sugar then go for this it has none.
Took a tour of the Mount Gay Distillery in Barbados and liked OX over the 1703. It was more appealing to my palate and at less than half the price....
This is nice, it is not a overly sweet rum a happy middle. You can drink this straight or with ice or a little lemon juice squeezed in. Mixing with normal mixers is a waste to the rum. If mixed with these drinks you will not appreciate the full flavour.
has a woody aroma with a dry finish.
Tried it on the rocks, next time I'll try it straight up.
Wonderful dryness, fruit and oak. Bottled at 43% and this gives that extra little punchiness to it. But the oak makes it so smooth. I find it easy to be a little dismissive of this due to the mass marketing of the brand.
This is somewhat dry with a woody, complex flavor. While it's a good sipper, it seems pricey for my taste. Update: this was based on a single sample at a rum tasting and I'm no longer rating rum until I've tasted it more thoroughly. I plan to update and revise this soon.
Tastes great. Dry finish and full aroma. More a scotch than a rum.
If you ate lining for something different you found it.
Really like the taste and finish of this rum. I drink it over ice frequently.
'ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla, pastry and...'
"Mount Gay Extra Old rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Interesting nose of oak with a faint hint of toasted pineapple and candied orange.
Quite dry with some fruity sweetness that seems to derive from.distillation and not from added sugar, very correct — for better or worse. Not a very long aftertaste. It is a bit like drinking a medium range, mainstream XO cognac: pleasant, good craftsmanship but nothing I will remember. But absolutely a worthy candidate if you want to stock a good XO rum at home. I much prefer this style to those with added sugar.
