Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

A very good rum from the Barbados. I reaaly like the bottle also.
this is a very tasty melasse rum. Coffee and sweetnes in nose snd by drinking.
Having had the Mount Gay Eclipse multiple times I was quite intrigued to see if there was a noticeable difference in the step up to the XO. There is. Its not the smoothest rum I’ve tried but its easy to drink on its own and even better with a cube or two of ice.
I bought this rum because of the relatively good comments that I heard about it. After tasting it, I was unimpressed. I do not think I can describe its flavor with enthusiasm as is the case with other rums, but it was OK. It is on the side of the sweet rums, perhaps some caramel somewhere, some honey, but nothing really exciting. I mean it achieves a minimum standard set by rums of similar price in the sense that its quality is acceptable, but that is all.

Aanrader!
Now, this is a very good rum, nose has notes of carmel, vanilla, spice and some dry currants. Firm body, long lingering finish are a bonus to this quality rum.
Mount Gay XO is a good rum for mixing. Enjoyable for sipping when others aren't available, but enough rough edges to make it harsh.
Reasonably smooth and complex. Bought on sale, waiting for next sale.
i was given a bottle for Christmas last year and thought I would try on New Year's Eve. Hal a bottle later I decided it was one of the smoothest I have ever tasted with a lovely warmth and depth.
My overall winner, great for the money, holds complexity and flavours.
'ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla, pastry and...'

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I cannot imagine a rum my cabinet without this little gem in it.
From the amber colour to the smooth taste it hits all the marks. The longer you can leave it in the glass, the better it gets, releasing different hints of flavours as the 1 ice cube melts.
Another one that in my opinion is far to good to drink with anything other than Ice added. No mixers for this.
Enjoy, graham.
