Straw color going towards the light gold. On the nose are the classic markers of Jamaica, exotic fruits, banana, pineapple, nice floral and vegetal notes. On the palate, one is always on the exotic fruits with a long finish on spices, pepper. Beautiful rum to perceive Jamaican Rum.

A very complex Jamaican, with lots of fruit, oak and hints of glue

Smooth as butter typical banana funk like a worthy park but smoother and way less burn.

This rum makes little compromise. The nose initially comes with the double portion of glue. After this evaporates it becomes very spicy, nutmeg and burnt pear.
In the mouth the alcohol pops first, at 57.18% no wonder. Then come notes of dark grain bread and spicy herbs. Not enough fruitiness for me.
Because we are at Worthy Park and in the high Cask Strength range, the comparison with WP 109 suggests itself, which I find more successful and complex.
I am a fan of Transcontinental Rum Line because they work without sugar, but this Jamaican still has too little to offer for its 5 years

We are back this week with another TCRL; this one from my favorite distillery Worthy Park in Jamaica. The last TCRL from Worthy Park I had, TCRL Jamaica WP 2015, was (still is) amazing, and I rated it very highly. Indeed every Transcontinental Rum Line bottling I have had to date has been absolutely superb. All of them I have had to date have been “home runs” as we like to say in the US. It’s really quite impressive, though not entirely unexpected because La Maison and Velier really have an incredible knack for picking rums.

This particular bottling comes, as mentioned from Worthy Park Estate. It is a high ester pot still rum out of St. Catherine, Jamaica that has been aged 4 years on site in Jamaica in American oak and then, as TCRL do, aged a further 1.5 years in Europe in American Oak. In both cases in used Whiskey barrels. It was finally bottled at 57.18% ABV.

This rum has quite a nice nose to it. Wafting from the Glencairn I initially get Modelers Glue, Banana, and Caramel. But this rum comes in waves. Next I get Guanabana and Grilled Pineapple. The final aroma on this rum is quite unique for a Worthy Park distillate. The closest I can describe it is Strawberry Limeade.

Taking a sip the palate is not near as expressive as the nose would suggest - though it does open up a bit with water. Taking a sip I immediately get Banana (I would expect nothing less from Worthy Park, that’s their signature). But then I get a lovely Toasted Marshmallow note accompanied by grilled Pineapple. The palate then rounds out with a distinct Irish Whiskey flavor and mouthfeel. Odd two rum reviews back to back with the same note I haven’t really had on any other rum. Four notes on the palate for a Worthy Park distillate? That’s a bit thin. They are tasty notes to be sure but that’s a little thinner than most rums I have had out of this famous distillery.

On the finish I get Grilled Pineapple and a touch of chest warming/cooling Menthol. After some time with a little dilution I get a lovely Cedar note.

This rum drinks fairly dry and is initially a bit thin. But it opens up generously with a bit of water. After I starting drinking this I delved into an appetizer to whet my palate a little. I noticed that with food and water my sips became far stronger and more expressive. I am not sure what that means, but this is definitely a rum you can serve and enjoy with food.

This rum is not as expressive, intense, or complex as it’s 2015 sibling but it is still extremely enjoyable - especially with an ice cube and some antipasta. Initially on the first sips, I wasn’t as impressed with this rum as I have been with other TCRL bottlings…but with water and a palate cleanser this rum *really* opened up and blossomed. So if you get this rum, water it, give it patience and watch it blossom. If you are so inclined, this rum especially shines with food. I am not sure why that is…but it really is the case. So pop this one open with friends and family over cheese and crackers (or whatever your antipasta is) and enjoy. That’s where it really seems to shine. With water, time, patience (and a decent palate cleanser) this rum really shines.

Short Description: the absolute perfect sip for a pre-dinner hangout with an appetizer. Don’t ask why, I don’t know… just try it.

Worthy Park Transcontinental Rum Line 2012:
- This rum is bottled at 57% ABV and in pretty smooth. The rum is crisp (seems to be present in several Jamaican rums I have tasted to date) and inviting but unlike « The Younger LROK » I will not be seeking a full to add to my collection.

Destilováno / Nalahvováno: 2012 / 2017
Rum pochází z destilerie Worthy Park, kde zrál 4 roky. Poté dozrával ještě 1 rok v Evropě.
Vyrobeno mělo být 6575 lahví.

Aroma: Typický Worthy Park - přezrálé banány, mediciální zasmrádlost, travnatost,èmíza i jistá pálenkovost.
Chuť: Příjemně kořenitá, medově ostrá.
Dozvuk: Lehce pepřový přecházející do příjemné medovosti.

Pretty nice and smooth example of Jamaican rum. A lot of fruits with a hint of glue, long spicy aftertaste.

Already aroma is nicely jamaican, but very smooth - you would not expect the 57%. Taste is again jamaica - esters, grass, flowers, wood, not burning. Aftertaste is again full of esters, but could be longer.
