This is like a deeper, richer, dryer version of the Kaniche XO, which I already thought was a great rum. Everything seems to have been tweaked just a bit in all the right ways leaving you with this absolutely masterful tropical cocktail-in-a-bottle!
Nose- That typical Kaniche core of tropical fruit (pineapple, dried mango), christmas spice and coconut. The usual molasses is replaced with a burnt toffee, giving off a darker vibe that plays nicely with the over all medicinal-ness of the nose. Definitely dryer than other Kaniche's, but still with an underlying sweetness.
Palette- This rum has all kinds of wonderful things that you never thought would go together! Coconut, orange zest, olive brine and aloe, with huge hits of christmas spice and molasses! There is a definite sweetness here, so if you think added sugars are the work of the devil, you may be upset. Then again, if you're that much of a purist, hopefully you can appreciate the rest of the quality in this work of art enough that you can look past that. The flavors all play together seamlessly and then just seem to go on and on, making it difficult to tell where the palette ends and the finish begins!
Finish- All of those great flavors from before slowly morph into even more tropical, rummy goodness, bringing out mango (tommy) peel, more baking spice, and a nice, sweet campfire smoke. The finish then sticks around for minutes, carrying a nice thick texture.
To top it all off, this rum is smooth as, without even a hint of a burn as it goes down. Though that said, it does bring that delightful warming sensation to your entire upper body.
This is just EXCELLENT rum!! I honestly cannot think of a single thing I would change. Thank you, and good on you Maison Ferrand. Good on you.

Definitely affordable and still a decent rum to sip, but don't expect too much from it.

This one for my tastes (so far) nicely stays in that real rum but smoothed out and just sweet enough to a great sipper. Warmed just slightly in the water of the hot tub releases even more aromas that hint of leather, sugary spices and a bit of fruit note. The mouth feel is smooth and flows over the tongue without harshness and lingers without burn. I really enjoy this rum!

Really nice for the price!!!! Tried side be side with plantation xo. Like plantation a teeny bit better, but this definitely held its own. A bit lighter than plantation. Still loads of flavors. Hard to beat for under $40!!!

If I hadn't detected notes of added sugar this rum would be closer to a nine. Excellent balance for a medium priced and affordable rum.

Good flavor profile, not too sweet. Has a little bit of a burn to it. I did a blind taste test with this rum against the Kaniche XO... The XO came across as being sweeter and had some additional flavors that made me a little suspicious, but overall I preferred the XO to this one (Perfeccion). YMMV, and rum purists will likely prefer the Perfeccion over the XO.

I am still confused, however, as to the provenance of the Perfeccion rum. Many websites describe this as being from Barbados, but the bottle says Panama. Even stranger, the Maison Ferrand web site does not even acknowledge this entry in their lineup. They list the "Reserve", "11 Years" and "XO" but not the "Perfeccion". Conspiracy maybe? I'll need to get to the bottom of this... the bottle, that is.

This one is a highlight of my collection. The Rum itself is dry, but very smooth. Not to sweet, some wood-flavour with it. I enjoy every zip of it. Its the kind of Rum you want to drink after a beautiful day in the sunset to just enjoy life. This is nothing to bind down or to mix. This is a top-quality end-of-the-line Premium Rum. Price is ok, for what you get. Very comparable to the Plantation 20 XO.

Absolutely brilliant presentation with a red wooden box.

I mean no disrespect to the folks at Kaniche. To create something like this, the dedication, the time. Few will understand, but we all have a chance to appreciate. Super well done!
